Golfing legend Tiger Woods has been involved in a car crash in Florida, USA.

The crash took place just after 2pm Eastern Time (7pm UK time), the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Police said they are 'currently investigating and will provide additional details as they become available'.

It is expected that police provide an update on the crash in a news conference at 9pm UK time.

Woods, 50, was involved in a rollover crash on Jupiter Island today (27 March) near Beach Road, according to Florida authorities, with a photo being snapped at the scene by WPTV.

It showed a vehicle on its side, as the Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the incident and reveal more on the crash as details become available.

Currently, it is unclear if the 15-time golf major championship winner was injured in the wreck.

President Donald Trump has since broken his silence on the condition of his 'close friend' following the crash today, with the 79-year-old saying 'he has some difficulty'.

While he didn't want to speak about the crash, he admitted of the golfer: "He's got some difficulty. There was an accident, and that's all I know."

Woods has spent the past few months recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon and a back surgery in October.

He competed for the first time in over a year on Tuesday's (24 March) TGL finals, though his Jupiter Links GC team lost to the Los Angeles Golf Club.

The sporting icon was weighing up a return to the PGA Tour at next week's Masters at Augusta National Golf Club, which would be the first major of the season - he last competed on the PGA Tour in July 2024.

It was reported that Woods put himself forward for the 46th US Senior Open in early July just hours ago, though a USGA spokesperson noted that he 'will not make a decision about playing until ‌a later date', entering 'simply to ensure eligibility'.

Back in February 2021, Woods suffered a number of serious leg injuries in a one-car crash outside Los Angeles.

In the incident three years ago, his SUV rolled several times, leaving him trapped in the car as he later required surgery to deal with 'open fractures' to his lower right leg.

He then had a rod placed in a tibia, having screws and pins inserted into his foot and ankle during emergency surgery, after which he was hospitalised following the surgery.

Woods admitted at the 2021 Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas that he was 'lucky to be alive and also have a limb', as there was a 50 percent chance that he would have his right leg amputated.

The golfer then had at least one more surgery related to injuries from the crash in April 2023.
