Tiger Woods revealed he is 'stepping away' from the public eye to seek treatment after his latest car crash.

On 27 March, the pro-golfer was arrested in Florida after his Land Rover clipped another vehicle while overtaking, subsequently flipping onto its side.

Neither Woods nor the other driver were injuried in the collision; however, law enforcement decided to arrest the 50-year-old on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI), property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test after he refused to provide a urine sample.

Martin County Sheriff's Office later confirmed the arrest took place just after 2pm EST (7pm UK time).

It was later revealed that police had found two hydrocodone pills in the golfer's possession at the time of arrest.

He was later released on bail eight hours after the incident.

Woods has now issued a statement regarding the crash, saying he is stepping away to focus on 'lasting recovery'.

"I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today," he wrote on X.

"I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritise my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.

"I'm committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally."

The golfer concluded his statement by thanking fans for their support, adding: "I appreciate your understanding and support and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time."

America's PGA Tour organisers have also shared their support for Woods following the crash.

"Tiger Woods is a legend of our sport whose impact extends far beyond his achievements on the course," the organisation said.

"But above all else, Tiger is a person, and our focus is on his health and well-being.

"Tiger continues to have our full support as he takes this important step."

The statements come as further details from Woods' arrest were released to the public, with an affidavit released by Martin County Sheriff's Office revealing that Woods told police officers he'd been looking at his phone while trying to adjust his car radio in the moments leading up to the collision, meaning that he did notice the vehicle in front of him had slowed down.

The document also notes that a deputy attending the scene thought Woods' eyes appeared 'bloodshot and glassy' after the incident. He was instructed to perform a series of sobriety tests before being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
