Tiger Woods has been charged after a two car collision in Florida.

The incident happened in the US state at around 2pm local time (7pm GMT), according to information released by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

The 50-year-old golfing legend, who is tied for first in historic PGA Tour wins, was charged with driving under the influence after a car crash in the south east US state.

Images from the scene show a car overturned on Jupiter Island near Beach Road.

President of the United States, Donald Trump, has spoken on the incident to label Woods as a 'close friend'.

"He's got some difficulty. There was an accident, and that's all I know," POTUS said.

According to the sheriff's office, Woods has also been charged with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.

The 15-time golfing major winner passed a breathalyser test at the scene but reportedly refused to provide authorities with a urine sample to undergo testing.

Full name Eldrick Tont Woods, the golfer is said to have been seen crawling out of the passenger side of his car, according to eye-witnesses reports, after it collided with a pressure cleaner truck.

Sheriff John Budensiek, from the Martin County sheriff's office in Florida, said that Woods showed 'signs of impairment' following the incident - the cause of which remain undetermined at this stage as investigation work continues.

In his golfing career, Woods has won a grand total of 82 comps on the PGA Tour, which leaves him tied with Sam Snead in the all-time leaderboard for historic wins by a single competitor.

Woods' last major was the 2019 Masters after battling injury for numerous years.

He is yet to compete in the PGA Tour since last appearing in July 2024.

According to reports from local news, one person at the scene was described as medically stable while another refused to go to the hospital.

Martin County Fire Rescue said there are no injuries to anyone involved in the incident.

In a press conference to local media, Sheriff Budensiek said: "The DUI investigators came to the scene and Mr Woods did exemplify signs of impairment.

"They did several tests on him. He did explain the injuries and surgeries that he's had and we did take that into account, but they did some in-depth roadside tests.

"When it was determined, he was placed under arrest and taken to the Martin County jail. At the Martin County jail, and even on scene, we were really not suspicious of alcohol being involved in this case and that proved to be true.

"Mr Woods did a breathalyser test with triple zeros, but when it came time for us to ask for a urinary analysis test, he refused."
