There’s not even a debate, there’s an undisputed queen of the red carpet right now and that’s Zendaya.
We can always rely on the 29-year-old to serve up looks for film premieres and she’s not been disappointing with her string of releases this year so far.
She served up her typical ‘method dressing’ for The Odyssey carpets – matching her fashion (with the help of Law Roach) to her film role.
And with Spider-Man: Brand New Day out in cinemas from today (29 July), Zendaya has been hitting the carpet in stylish spidey looks. But notably, they’ve pretty much all been black - you know, like you would for a funeral.

So, if she is totally method dressing maybe the all-black signifies bad news for fans – she might have given us a pretty sad spoiler that someone dies.

Zendaya’s method dressing
Basically, method dressing quite literally means for the actor to be dressing in a way that relates to their character and/or film outside of the role.
We saw it back when she was in Challengers and she wore tennis-inspired looks for press or with bridal white looks for The Drama earlier this year.
And while she’s had some fun with the likes of a simple over-sized Spider-Man T-shirt, the majority of her looks for the latest Marvel movie have been black.
For the premiere in Shanghai, she did wear more of a black-and-white look, giving spider web vibes but still, heavy on the black.

Other press tour looks have included a fringe strapless black gown for the Madrid premiere (where she also wore a red look), a black jacket with red shorts in Amsterdam as well as a black coat and black sheer slip dress for a photocall.
As well as the odd bits of Spider-Man blue and red, there’s a number of black gowns, spider-web dresses and black jackets.
Now, I hate to say the obvious, but wearing black is synonymous with mourning. And so, it could be possible that all of this fashion is suggesting a funeral or death in the new Spider-Man film.
It’s not far-fetched to speculate there is a hidden meaning to her dressing for the film’s press tour and so, we could think that Zendaya’s fashion suggests her character MJ dies in the film.
Or, there’s the chance she’s mourning the end of an era. It’s heavily suggested that this will be Tom Holland’s last dance as Spider-Man and so it could be her last time appearing in the franchise too.

What has Zendaya said about the Spider-Man looks?
Wearing a jet-black gown for the Hollywood premiere earlier this week, Zendaya styled the dress with black sheer tights and black lace heels.
And with her and stylist Law Roach so well known for the method dressing, a reporter asked: “How much of the press tour for this movie was, 'Let's tell MJ's story through the costuming?’”
Of course, Zendaya hasn’t given much away, but there is this speculation that she’s dressing for death.
“I think you just have to go to the movie and see for yourself,” the MJ actor replied.
"Of course we love to play the very vivid storytelling. We just like to have fun and extend that storytelling through the press tour."
She’s also already warned fans to ‘bring some tissues’ as both her and Holland said fans will cry ‘big time’.
In another interview with De Estreno, she also spoke more about what her fashion might mean for the film she is promoting.
Part of doing the press stuff and trying to make the clothes intentional is not just trying to pay homage but giving little trails of ideas and thoughts," the star said.
“And maybe it's true! Maybe it's confusing! That's the fun of it!"

Fans’ response
“Nobody does method dressing like Zendaya,” fans have agreed, piling on the praise for her and Roach’s incredible run of press looks.
But it’s incited a fair bit of fear as one wrote: “I'm falling into the theory that MJ dies or gets bitten by the Venom bug because she did the entire press tour in black and she's #strict with the method dressing.”
And another pointed out: “Zendaya wearing all black at the Spider-Man premiere, just to show up in China wearing white, when white there represents mourning. I'm fainting.”
But others suggest: “Folks are swearing up and down that MJ dies, but I'm over here thinking she's in mourning for someone else.”
Well, I guess we’ll have to head to the cinema and find out just why Zendaya has been rocking the black…
