Sadie Sink's secret role in Spider-Man accidentally revealed in red carpet blunder

Spider-Man: Brand New Day looks set to become one of the most successful films ever made in just its first weekend, with projections stating that the fourth film in the MCU Spider-Man franchise is set to earn $800 million in just a few days.

Amongst the many reasons fans are beyond excited for the new Spider-Man film is its all-star celebrity cast.

The movie of course has the returning Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon, with Mark Ruffalo and Jon Bernthal reprising their roles from elsewhere in the MCU. The biggest addition to the MCU in the movie however is Sadie Sink, and Marvel have somehow managed to keep her role under wraps all the way through to the day before the film opens.

Last night however, at Brand New Days red carpet premiere, a live slip up revealed who Sink was playing and it is a massive Marvel character.

The reveal came, bizarrely, in the form of a red-carpet interview between musician Steve Lacy and the streamer Valkyrae, whose real name is Rachell Marie Hofstetter.

Lacy created a track for the new film and, during an interview with Valkyrae, was asked about his favourite character in the film – with the streamer specifically asking him to ‘not spoil’ anything. This, sadly, did not go to plan.

The musician said: “You know what… Jean. I like Jean. She’s the villain but there’s like a reason to her madness.”

Valkyrae quite clearly is left in a panic, laughing and asking: “Is that a spoiler?”

Based on the long running rumours that the X-Men character Jean Grey is exactly who Sink would be playing, the answer from the internet was a resounding yes.

One fan tweeted: “The concept of Steve Lacy ruining months of marketing in an interview that lasted seconds.”

Another tweeted, alluding to Marvel’s famous devotion to secrecy: “Steve Lacy thank you for your sacrifice. You are never being invited to one of these things again but we will remember you fondly.”

A third post, on Reddit, said: “Oh my f*cking days that was hilarious. Bro checked out completely for a solid 6.5 seconds and then returned with the biggest spoiler of the entire film, despite having just been told 7.5 seconds before that, no spoilers.”

Her role has been majorly kept under wraps, with Sink even having been photographed on set with a jacket to cover up her costume in the film.

Holland has already outright denied Jean Grey being in the movie, responding to a TikToker joking that the X-Men character can help out by saying: “She's not in this movie but it would be pretty cool.”

That said, even though Holland has a reputation for spoiling films from his press runs for Spider-Man: Homecoming and Avengers: Infinity War, the actor managed to keep pretty well under wraps that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire were set to appear in No Way Home.

Regardless of who Sink is playing though, reactions to Brand New Day from early press screenings have been overwhelmingly positive.

Erik Davis of Fandango said in his review: “Destin Daniel Cretton's Spider-Man: Brand New Day injects a ferocious energy into Spidey's latest adventure, delivering all the thrills you'd expect from a Tom Holland Spider-Man movie while feeling deeper, more thoughtful and more mature than the previous trilogy.

“And yes, the Sadie Sink mystery absolutely pays off. She's perfect.”

It would not be at all surprising timing if Brand New Day was the first time they brought Jean Grey on board, with news of the X-Men’s casting seeming imminent if you believe online scoopers.

Jake Schreier is set to direct the film following on from his success in helming both Thunderbolts and Beef, with Kevin Feige saying at a press roundtable last year: “It’s official, Jake Schreier is doing X-Men for us, and we’re very, very lucky.

“We’re very, very lucky to have him and very excited to have him. And so we’re beginning. It’s all starting now. The script’s underway.”
