Chris Pratt Lost 60lbs To Star In One Movie Just To Put It All Back On For The Next

Chris Pratt has spent the last decade starring in blockbuster movie franchises such as the MCU and the new Jurassic World films.

In that time he's gained an image as a ripped, muscular leading man capable of fighting all sorts of enemies from murderous aliens to monstrous dinosaurs.

However, he wasn't always like this, there was a time he was known more for being a softer comedic performer with a bit of a belly.

Pratt used to be best known as loveable idiot Andy Dwyer in TV comedy Parks and Recreation, where his character was a slacker with a bit of a beer-belly.

The big catalyst for this change was getting cast as Star Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy, which required him to trim down and work out until he'd gained an impressive six-pack.

Luckily for Pratt, it wasn't the first time he'd had to undergo a major body transformation for a role, having shed a whopping 60lbs to prepare for Zero Dark Thirty.

Incredibly, he then had to gain back all the weight he'd just lost for a role as a lawyer in 2013 comedy Delivery Man.

Speaking on Conan at the time, Pratt described himself as 'kinda like a fat a**' and explained that he wasn't the biggest fan of training hard to get a role.

He said: "I've always been a little soft, I like to eat and I don't like to, crunches I'm not going to do.

"I had a deadline to play a Seal Team Six member so I got, I had about five or six months and really busted my a** to get in good shape."

"After I wrapped the movie almost immediately I gained 60lbs to play a role in another movie."

Pratt's transformation from schlubby comedy performer into leading action star has even been referenced in some of his movies.

In The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, the character of Rex Dangervest is introduced as having 'chiselled features previously hidden under baby fat', a joke on Pratt getting ripped to become an action hero.

He's not the only Hollywood star who has transformed his body more than once to look the part for an upcoming role, with Christian Bale practically turning it into an artform.

Bale has gone from nothing but skin and bones in The Machinist to ripped as hell for his portrayal of Bruce Wayne in Christopher Nolan's Batman movies to gaining weight for roles in American Hustle and Vice.
