Cillian Murphy issues huge Peaky Blinders film update to fans

A Peaky Blinders movie is in the works and Tommy Shelby himself just gave a major update.

It's hard to explain the excitement we feel when we hear Nick Cave's 'Red Right Hand' opening our favourite show.

So, when it was announced that a film 'is going to happen' we lost our s***. Now Cillian Murphy himself has given an incredible update, and we might need to lie down.

For those not yet clued in, a film of the hit series is in the works, with the news coming after it was announced that the sixth season of Peaky Blinders would be the last.

Show creator Steven Knight created a huge buzz around the next chapter in Tommy Shelby's story after telling Deadline: "Covid changed our plans. But I can say that my plan from the beginning was to end Peaky with a movie. That is what is going to happen."

And in addition to that, our beloved Tommy Shelby has given us an update on the film's progress.

In a recent interview with Today FM, Murphy explained that the script was pretty far along.

Murphy was asked by hosts Dermot Whelan and Dave Moore if the script was close to being finished, to which he replied: "Yes, I believe so. I’ve still not read it [the script] but that’s the plan, the plan is to make a film and to continue the story but in the cinematic world rather than on the television."

"The television part of the story is finished. If there’s more stories to tell, I’m there. I just haven’t read it yet but it’s close apparently."

And the end of series six gave Knight more than enough scope to continue the legendary Peaky Blinders story.

For those who need a quick recap, series six saw Tommy being told he had contracted tuberculoma and was soon to be dead.

After getting his affairs in order, Tommy decides to kill himself, only to be stopped by the ghost of his daughter, who helps him see that he has been lied to by his doctor (who was in cahoots with his enemies).

The series ends with Tommy very much alive, thriving, and looking like he's ready for this film.

And we're honestly counting the days to see what happens next.
