Viewers are already calling for Eddie Redmayne to pick up an Oscar for his latest role. Have a peek at him in action:

The 40-year-old is best known for his Academy Award-winning portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything, as well as his role in the Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts.

In his latest release, Redmayne flexes his acting chops as real-life serial killer Charles Cullen who murdered numerous patients during his 16-year career as a nurse in New Jersey.

One viewer took to Twitter after watching the grisly tale to write: "Eddie Redmayne’s second Oscar, right here."

Another thought co-star Jessica Chastain also deserves a prize for her portrayal of Amy Loughren.

They wrote: "Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne are harrowingly brilliant actors. Their performances in The Good Nurse are Oscar worthy."

Another said: "What Jessica Chastain & Eddie Redmayne did on The Good Nurse can never be undone. Outstanding performances from both of them."

Despite the praise he's received across his career, Redmayne did not attend a formal drama school before breaking into Hollywood and instead read history of art at the University of Cambridge.

And it was back to school for this film, with the actor enrolling in 'overwhelming' nursing classes in preparation for the role.

Redmayne told PA news agency: “Let’s be absolutely clear: if anyone is in trouble, please call Jessica Chastain. Under no circumstances call me.

“I was useless. I was endlessly injecting the poor dummy in the wrong place.

“We had two weeks of nurse training and it became absolutely clear what an extraordinarily hard job it is.

“One of the reasons Charlie was able to slip through the system was because there was a shortage of nurses in New Jersey at the time, because it’s such an incredibly hard, underpaid job.

“The expectations on nurses, the physical expectation, the actual physical labour… along with the science, the intellect involved, let alone the emotional quality.

“You have to be a translator of what doctors do, you have to be the person that is there with the families, that sort of emotional intelligence, I think it’s one of the most extraordinarily hard jobs out there.”

The real-life story that made headlines in 2006 saw Cullen confess to killing 29 people. However, it is believed he may have been responsible for up to 400 deaths.

Currently serving 18 consecutive life sentences in a New Jersey state prison, Cullen won’t be eligible for parole until 2403.

The Good Nurse is available to watch on Netflix now. Let's see if Redmayne and Chastain get those nominations in January.
