Netflix subscribers searching for a spooky horror film to watch got a lot more than they bargained for after watching Eli.

The creepy feature has given viewers sleepless nights, which is exactly what you want after watching a horror film, right?

The film follows a boy with a mysterious illness.

Eli focuses on a gravely ill young lad (played by Charlie Shotwell) who is believed to have an autoimmune condition. Little Eli is taken to a facility inside a humongous and extremely unsettling mansion to be cured. The parents of the poorly 11-year-old are trying desperately to cure their son with no luck, which has seen him confined in a hazmat-style suit to avoid contact with others. They place their hopes in Dr. Isabella Horn (Lili Taylor), who carries out a bunch of painful procedures.

The film leads viewers to think that Dr Horn might have sinister intentions and a series of supernatural encounters while at the mansion leaves Eli, as well as the staff taking care of him, feeling absolutely petrified.

Eli believes the mansion is haunted and Hayley (Sadie Sink), a young girl he befriends, is the only person who believes him. Their interaction encourages him to try and get to the bottom of the weird paranormal moments at the facility.

All is revealed at the end of the film where we finally find out why Eli has been so unwell. The spooky build-up and the big reveal has been praised by Netflix subscribers on social media.

One cheeky review shared on Twitter after the film’s release in 2019 said: “K so the new horror movie Eli on Netflix, 10/10 do not recommend unless you want to lose sleep for a week”

This sounds like a backhanded compliment. We’ll take it!

A second review from around the same time declared: “This new Eli movie on Netflix is so scary help.”

Another viewer wrote: “Tried to watch Eli on Netflix now my scary ass can’t sleep.”

A fourth tweeted: “Just tried watching Eli on Netflix but way to scary for little me, back to happy TV #Eli.”

Someone else wrote: “If y'all like scary movies watch Eli on Netflix, it's wild bro.”

The film also stars Kelly Reilly and Max Martini as Eli’s mother and father respectively while Stranger Things and Fear Street actress Sadie Sink portrays Eli’s sidekick, Hayley.
