Companies have really stepped up the tear-jerking game when it comes to their 2018 Christmas adverts. John Lewis has us in floods over Elton John, Aldi put us on edge with the tale of Kevin the Carrot and now even McDonald's have us reaching for the tissues with its latest ad.

The advert shows Santa Clause on his Christmas Eve journey to deliver gifts to all the good girls and boys of the world, not forgetting to stop for a nibble on a mince pie (or several) that have been left out for him. But in many of the homes he visits there hasn't been any carrots left out for the reindeer to eat.

With his reindeer hungry and lacking energy to carry on the journey Santa gets an idea when he spots McDonald's in the distance - he heads to the fast food restaurant and stocks up on carrot sticks to feed his flying creatures.

The ad has caught the hearts of people all over the UK and many have taken to Twitter to say they think it's even better than the John Lewis advert that was released last week.

One person posted: "The Mcdonald's Christmas advert is actually 100x better than the John Lewis one this year idc."

Another said: "I think it's safe to say @McDonald's have the best Christmas advert this year by far. #ReindeerReady."

A third tweeted: "The McDonald's advert is my favourite Christmas advert this year. Sorry John Lewis but they got you beat"

Many people said the poor reindeer's being left out on their long festive journey moved them to tears.

One tweeted: "The McDonald's Christmas ad actually made me cry #ReindeerReady."

A second person commented: "Dear John Lewis, the McDonald's Christmas advert just made me cry...McDonald's. That's how shit your advert is this year. That is all."

"Why am I crying over the McDonald's Christmas advert," another posted.

Even celebrities have fallen in love with the hungry reindeer, Amanda Holden replied to the company's tweet about the ad saying: "Omg. I actually cried! Finally a sweet #Christmas #ad."

Not only have the company released an emotional advert but their offer all their customers a free bag of carrots if they visit a McDonald's restaurant on Christmas eve so that everyone can be #ReindeerReady.
