Just when you thought the niche world of sci-fi disaster cinema couldn't get any more baffling, the creative team from the Sharknado film series have decided to make a movie all about a zombie tidal wave - aptly titled, er, Zombie Tidal Wave.

The film comes from the weird and wonderful mind of director Anthony C. Ferrante, who's brought us such classics as 2013's Sharknado, 2014's Sharknado 2: The Second One, 2015's Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!, 2016's Sharknado: The 4th Awakens, 2017's Sharknado 5: Global Swarming and 2018's The Last Sharknado: It's About Time - to name just a few.

Premiering on SYFY this August, it will star actor and producer Ian Ziering, who is known for playing Fin Shepard in the Sharknado films.

Plot details are slightly thin on the ground outside of what you can see in the trailer, but when you've got a film about a zombie tidal wave, I kinda feel like anything goes.

It looks as though a bunch of zombies break through from the ocean bed, and swim up to the surface before dragging their feet onto dry land to wreak all kinds of havoc in a small seaside community, forcing veteran sea captain Hunter Shaw (Ziering) to step in.

Classic disaster movie fodder, just with added zombies.

The SyFy synopsis reads: "From Ian Ziering and the director of the Sharknado movies comes Zombie Tidal Wave.

"Do we need to sell it beyond that? Premiering August 17 on SYFY."

The trailer dropped yesterday (Thursday 18 July) during a 'Zombie Tidal Wave Panel' event at this year's San Diego Comic Con, which was attended by the creators and cast.

And it seems fans are already excited to see the ridiculous new premise from the Sharknado crew, with one person tweeting: "OMG this looks so stupid good!!!! I love B movies, probably more C or D in this case."

Another person said: "Hahaha!! Can't Wait!! (Just when you thought it was SAFE to go back to the beach!)"

Someone else wrote: "From fighting Sharknados to Fighting a undead tsunami horde."
