Gwyneth Paltrow has spoken out about an upcoming film with Timothée Chalamet, stating the pair had heaps of sex for the new role – and purposely asked the intimacy co-ordinator to be more hands off when doing so.

The discussion around intimacy co-ordinators has become a hot topic in Hollywood in recent years, with the introduction of the role post #MeToo becoming the new industry standard.

This year’s Best Actress winner at the Oscars, Mikey Madison, sparked controversy when she declined using an intimacy co-ordinator for her leading role as a sex worker in Anora.

While other actors have been full of praise for the new on-set position, Paltrow revealed that she and Chalamet asked theirs to 'step back' when shooting their upcoming film.

The pair are starring together in a new A24 film called Marty Supreme and went viral after pictures showed the pair locking lips on the set of the film.

The film, directed Josh Safdie and releasing December of this year in the US, features the pair in an age gap relationship, with Paltrow, 52, joking that she said to the 29-year-old Chalamet: “I was like, ‘OK, great. I’m 109 years old. You’re 14.”

Paltrow said in an interview with Vanity Fair: “We have a lot of sex in this movie. There’s a lot.

“There’s now something called an intimacy coordinator, which I did not know existed. I was like, ‘Girl, I’m from the era where you get naked, you get in bed, the camera’s on’.”

She stated that she said to the intimacy co-ordinator on the film: “I think we’re good. You can step a little bit back.”

Paltrow went on to add: “I don’t know how it is for kids who are starting out, but if someone is like, ‘Okay, and then he’s going to put his hand here,’ I would feel, as an artist, very stifled by that."

The 52-year-old was full of praise for Chalamet, saying of the two-time Academy Award nominee: “He’s such a thinking man’s sex symbol.

“He’s just a very polite, properly raised, I was going to say kid, he’s a man who takes his work really seriously and is a fun partner.”

Exact plot details for Marty Supreme have largely been kept under wraps so far, with Variety saying that Chalamet is set to star as a ‘ping pong protégé competing overseas’.

Paltrow revealed in the Vanity Fair profile, however, that she plays the wife of a rival within the sport who begins an affair with Chalamet’s character.

She said in the interview: “This woman who is married to someone who is in the Ping-Pong mafia, as it were.

“They meet and she’s had a pretty tough life, and I think he breathes life back into her, but it’s kind of transactional for them both.”

Director Safdie said of Paltrow: "She’s a movie star. I say that in the cosmic sense.

"She’s got a gravitational pull that only a camera can depict. I think her absence from acting has lent a vulnerability to her abilities."

Marty Supreme is set to release January 1, 2026, in the UK.
