Interstellar fans have had a huge realisation about a major milestone hit in the film, and it is linked to one of the biggest hidden details in the Christopher Nolan movie.

Nolan’s newest film The Odyssey has got fans stirring up theories already thanks to a newly released teaser playing before the new Jurassic World, so it’s fair to say that his films are well known for their ability to spawn countless theories.

Oftentimes, though, this is because viewers are able to figure out key plot points from hidden details in his films.

Whether that be the true meaning behind Inception’s ending being hidden in the film or Interstellar’s ticking sound having a genuine meaning to it, Nolan’s movies are known to have Easter eggs sprinkled all over.

Despite being 11 years on from Interstellar, however, the Matthew McConaughey film continues to dominate debates online.

For those who have somehow made it this far without having seen it, Interstellar focuses on a group of astronauts led by McConaughey’s Cooper travelling to try and find a habitable replacement world for the earth.

As the earth comes close to death, Cooper and co fly off, at one point landing on Miller’s Planet.

Whilst on Miller’s Planet, viewers can hear a ticking sound playing roughly every 1.25 seconds, something that you at first think is just an innocuous technique to unsettle you.

A later scene, however, reveals that the planet experiences ‘time dilation’ due to a nearby black hole, Gargantua.

This causes those on the planet to experience time differently from those on Earth, leading those on the mission to experience seven years on Earth for every hour on Miller’s Planet.

This horrifying realisation, causing Cooper to miss his children’s entire childhood and ultimately life, is a major plot point in the movie.

The ticking sound, however, indicates a single day on earth passing by with every 1.25 seconds.

Fans online have made a major realisation about the movie, however, with the popular film account ‘TheCinesthetic’ posting on X: “Since its release 11 years ago, just one hour and 31 minutes have passed on Miller's planet in Interstellar.”

One fan responded with a horrific realisation, saying: “Everyone we know will be gone before their day ends on that planet.”

This is unfortunately true; if the crew had spent one full day on Miller’s planet, 168 years would have passed on Earth.

Another commenter replied, pointing out the ticking sound Easter egg in the film, leading one fan to say: “I miss watching this for the first time.... absolutely cinema.”

Interstellar is available to rent or buy on the Apple TV store and to stream on Now Cinema.
