Johnny Depp could be set to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow for a sixth Pirates of the Caribbean movie and a script is already in the works.
The world was first introduced to Depp’s Jack Sparrow in the 2003 flick Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, with the Hollywood star making four more appearances as the rum-swilling captain, most recently in 2017’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
Since then, there’s been plenty of speculation about a sixth movie, including reports that the franchise could head a different way and opt for a female protagonist with Margot Robbie rumoured to be involved.
However, the franchise’s producer Jerry Bruckheimer has now revealed that he’s in talks with Depp to get him to reprise the role for an upcoming sixth instalment.

Speaking to Deadline at D23, he said: “We’re talking to Johnny, we’re working on a screenplay and hopefully we can get this done.”
And Depp isn’t the only original cast member who could be set for a return.
Orland Bloom, who played Will Turner in four of the flicks, has previously said he’d be keen and would ‘love to see everybody back’.
Appearing at Fan Expo Chicago, the actor said he'd be happy to return under two key conditions: the story and the cast.
“Everything is in the writing, right? Everything is on the page, and I think there’s definitely, I’m sure there’s a way to create something,” he said.
“I would personally love to see everybody back. I think the way to win on that one is to get everybody back. If they can, and if everybody wanted to go back.”
“My thing is, if the script was great and — ideally it was everybody — it’d be kind of like in for a penny, in for a pound, you know.”

But the actor did note is that there is still thoughts over just ‘how to do it’.
“Do you bring in a female leading character that replicates Jack in some way? I don’t know. The jury is out on how to do it again, but if [the script] was great, [I’d be in],” he added.
Bruckheimer has previously revealed that he believes Depp would return if the script was right.
“If he likes the way the part's written, I think he would do it,” he told Entertainment Weekly last year.
"It's all about what's on the page, as we all know."
Bruckheimer had also stated that any new Pirates film would be some sort of reboot, but that he would love for Depp to return to his role to play a part.
He said: “It's a reboot, but if it was up to me, he would be in it.
"I love him. He's a good friend. He's an amazing artist and he's a unique look. He created Captain Jack. That was not on the page; that was him doing a little Pepé Le Pew and Keith Richards. That was his interpretation of Jack Sparrow."
