One Tree Hill star Austin Nichols has admitted it wasn't appropriate for him to kiss a teenage Mary-Kate Olsen in the 2001 romance-comedy film Holiday in the Sun.

Nowadays you'll probably know them as the elusive older sisters of Marvel star Elizabeth Olsen but before they vanished into the world of high fashion sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley were the go-to twins for the casting directors of every children's film or TV show on air.

After finding fame on Full House with the shared role of Michelle Tanner, the sisters would go on to star in everything from films such as It Takes Two, Passport to Paris and even had their own animated series, Mary-Kate and Ashley in Action!

However the twins' career has since been looked upon more critically, with many people surprised to realise just how young they were in some of their films.

One such film is 2001's straight-to-DVD flick Holiday in the Sun, which saw the pair play teenage sisters Alex and Madison Stewart on a family holiday to The Bahamas.

Initially unhappy about the destination of the holiday, Alex and Madison would later find themselves entangled in respective holiday romances. And Mary-Kate's Madison ended up sharing a kiss with childhood friend Griffen, played by Nichols.

While the lighthearted teenage romcom initially sounds pretty harmless and inoffensive, Nichols has since revealed the age gap between himself and Mary-Kate at the time was 'weird'.

Speaking about the project on a recent episode of One Tree Hill rewatch podcast, Drama Queens, Nichols revealed it was 'wrong' of him to kiss the 15-year-old actor as he was 'too old'.

"I was definitely nervous because Mary-Kate was 15, and I was, I think, 18 or 19 or maybe even 20. I don’t remember," he explained.

"It felt weird, and it felt wrong."

He continued: "I don’t think you can tell there’s a big age difference, but from my brain, I was like, 'She’s 15. This is weird'."

Meanwhile Ben Easter, who was around 22 at the time of filming, recalled being 'nervous' after learning the twins had been incorrectly told he was 16.

Easter had played the role of a hotel worker who found himself in a love triangle with Olsen's Alex and a girl named Brianna, played by Megan Fox.

"I was a little bit nervous because of my age. My manager was like, 'I think they told the girls you were 16,'" he explained in a 2021 interview with E! News.

The actor added that he informed Ashley and her manager about his real age on set, as he hadn't wanted to lie.

"We hit it off right off the bat," he added. "They could see I was professional and I wasn't some creep."
