People baffled at how Al Pacino announced Oppenheimer win at Oscars

People baffled at how Al Pacino announced Oppenheimer win at Oscars

When you're Al Pacino, you can just kind of get away with this stuff.

While Oppenheimer capped off a triumphant Oscars by being named Best Picture, plenty watching found it a bit weird how the film's victory was announced.

You know the drill, some celebrities come out and run through the nominations before announcing the winner, but Al Pacino kind of cut to the chase on this one.

Take a look:

Rather skipping past all of the 10 nominations, Pacino instead raced onto the final award of the night.

He said: "I have to go to the envelope for that, and I will, here it comes.

"My eyes see Oppenheimer."

This left plenty of people confused as the Oscars had spent plenty of time running through the nominees until this point.

For some awards they'd even brought on past winners to give each nominee a personal speech about what they brought to the table, so plenty were expecting at least a run-down of the Best Picture nominees.

Instead Pacino skipped to the end, opened the envelope and announced that Oppenheimer had won, which left a lot of people thinking he 'couldn't have been more chaotic or confusing'.

If the Oscars had something prepared for a list of the nominees then it wasn't needed as they could hardly ask the Oppenheimer crew to get back off the stage and tell Al Pacino to run through the list again.

He just went for it.

Some wondered if the actor had managed to 'mess up the biggest category of the evening' and thought it 'wasn't the greatest idea' since the Best Picture category seemed rushed by comparison.

Another said it was 'the most anti-climactic Oscar win ever', but not because everyone knew Oppenheimer was going to win.

While the moment drew plenty of laughter from the crowd as he opened up the envelope, those watching along at home were left wondering if this was all planned or whether Pacino had a reason to be racing to the end.

Then again, others respected the legendary actor for not bothering with the hoo-ha of reading out 10 nominations when we all knew Oppenheimer was going to win.

"Perfect ending, no notes," was one viewer's verdict, while a second joked that Pacino had actually turned in the perfect Oscars display.

They said: "Al Pacino stumbled out of bed, walked onstage, opened an envelope, and said the name of the winner. This is the ideal award presenter. You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like."

At the very least it helped wrap the show up a little more quickly so everyone could get to the afterparty.
