A rock star has opened up about his part in a love triangle with Christina Applegate and Brad Pitt.

It comes after Applegate made a confession in her recent memoir, You With The Sad Eyes, that she had left Pitt to his own devices at the MTV Video Music Awards in 1989, when she decided she would rather hang out with the musician.

That's despite taking Pitt along as her guest for the night at the awards, something many women would have happily traded places with her for.

In more recent years, Applegate has been raising awareness about her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, and also opened up about the pain in her new book.

She insisted she had her reasons for leaving Pitt behind, and wrote candidly: “I hate to put it like this, but Brad back then was still making his way as an actor, and he wasn’t yet THE Brad Pitt, the man of so many people’s dreams.”

Instead of making the most of her night with Pitt, Applegate only had eyes for Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach, and confessed she had 'spent all night staring' at the 'long-haired hunk'.

Bach has now responded to her confession, and told Billboard he was 'very surprised' by the whole thing.

He said he was 'was very surprised when that all hit'.

Bach added: “I was a single guy on tour, in a band, and I met a lot of girls and I apologize if I hurt her, if I hurt anybody."

“When you’re young you get thrown into the whirlwind of rock ‘n’ roll, meeting a lot of people and you better hold on tight,” he explained.

“It’s like being on a roller coaster … It was a long time ago. If I hurt anybody, I apologize for it.”

Applegate was 17-years-old at the time, and said she “felt so powerful and sure of [herself] for once' and so she 'left the show with Sebastian Bach' at the end of the night.

That's not all, as apparently her departure meant he had to 'sullenly' drive her mom home from the event, and narrowly avoided trouble on the way.

“Apparently, at a gas station on the way, Brad almost got into a fight with a bunch of gang members, and, not surprisingly, was subsequently very mad at me.”

The pair apparently didn't talk for 'many years' after, and Applegate said she regretted it when she found out Bach was in a relationship at the time and had a 1-year-old child.

“Eventually, we agreed that I’d been a kid," she confessed, and admitted that Pitt had 'deserved much better.'

She went on to call herself 'the child who dumped [Pitt] for the lead singer of Skid Row'.

In the memoir, she also detailed how two of Pitt's 'movie star' girlfriends later asked her 'if it was true that I was the girl who left Brad behind at the MTV Video Music Awards. Brad had apparently told both of them separately that he was still mad at me.'
