Fans slam The Crow remake as ‘disrespectful’ after actor tragically died on set

Fans slam The Crow remake as ‘disrespectful’ after actor tragically died on set

The Crow actor from the original 1994 movie tragically died while filming.

Fans of the original The Crow film have questioned the need for a remake after the leading actor tragically died on set.

The 1994 movie followed musician Eric Draven (played by Brandon Lee) and his fiancée, who are brutally murdered by members of a violent inner-city gang the night before their wedding.

On the anniversary of their death, Eric rises from the grave and becomes 'the Crow', a supernatural avenger.

The Crow's mission is to track down those responsible for the crimes to get revenge.

Eric eventually confronts head gangster Top Dollar (Michael Wincott) to complete his mission.

Take a look at the original trailer below:

Now, amid the news of Rupert Sanders' remake, a number of photos have been released, featuring new lead Bill Skarsgård, set to take on the role of Eric.

“What drew me to this was the opportunity to make a dark romance, something that dealt with loss, grief, and the ethereal veil between life and death and reaching through that,” Sanders said.

“Look, I grew up listening to Joy Division and the Cure, and this movie is a bit like a Cure song—the beauty of melancholy.”

However, it seems that fans of the 1994 film aren't massively keen because of the way Brandon Lee died on set.

The son of legendary martial artist Bruce Lee was tragically shot with a dummy bullet during filming in 1993.

The 28-year-old died six hours later.

The scene was supposed to see Lee walk through a doorway carrying a grocery bag, while co-star Michael Massee fires blanks at him from 15 feet away.

Lee was then asked to flip a switch fitted to the bag which would activate 'squibs', which are essentially small fireworks that then simulate bloody bullet wounds.

“It wasn’t the first time they tried the scene,” a police spokesperson said at the time.

Taking to social media, some fans were not best pleased with the announcement of a remake, as one person commented: "I'm really curious like, who actually asked for a remake of The Crow?

"Cause fans don't want it. I don't want it. Do producers think it'll make loads of money?

"Cause I don't see it. I think it is disrespectful to Brandon Lee's legacy and death. Not everything needs a remake."

A second added: "I am not going to but #TheCrow shouldn't have a remake in my opinion because no one can play Eric Draven as good as Brandon Lee like yeah no disrespect to Bill Skarsgård because he was awesome as pennywise but the crow should be a memory for Brandon lee and left alone."

"I believe that Bill Skarsgård is an excellent actor; however, I also believe that attempts to remake a movie like The Crow are equivalent to trying to remake The Dark Knight featuring Heath Ledger," a third said.

"It cannot be done or redone for a modern audience, no matter what you do or who you cast in the role."
