Where The Mummy cast are now as major actors set to return for upcoming sequel
If you’re like me and you watched The Mummy at far too young an age for a movie that involves killer beetles burrowing under someone’s skin, the adventure classic is an absolutely nostalgic treat for a rewatch.
Between Brendan Fraser’s charismatic performance, Rachel Weisz’s incredible outing as Evie, or John Hannah’s scene-stealing as her brother, 1999’s The Mummy was so beloved almost everyone forgot that it was based on a far more serious horror film.
Fraser ended up starring in two more sequels, with Weisz not returning for the third and inarguably worst film of the franchise.
A fourth film has since been confirmed following Fraser’s Hollywood comeback, and several major members of the original film have now signed on to appear in the first Mummy movie in almost 20 years.
Brendan Fraser – Rick O’Connell

Brendan Fraser seemed set for an incredible career in the late 90s and early 2000s, but disappeared from the spotlight for almost a decade.
Fraser had suffered from personal issues, serious injuries from stunts gone wrong, and was ‘effectively blacklisted’ after he reported the former president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) Philip Berk for sexually abused him, stating that he groped him at a luncheon.
The actor bravely came forward about this, later winning the Oscar on his comeback for Best Actor for his performance in The Whale. He has also appeared in Killers of the Flower Moon and the brilliant underrated Rental Family since his comeback, and is confirmed to be returning for a fourth Mummy film, stating he’s been ‘waiting 20 years for this call’.
Rachel Weisz – Evie O’Connell
Weisz starred as Evie in the first two films, but was replaced by Maria Bello for the third movie as she had scheduling conflicts and reservations about the script and long shoot in China away from her family.
Weisz has gone on to have a hugely successful career, appearing in both successfully commercial franchises like the MCU but also receiving two Oscar nominations for The Constant Gardner and The Favourite.
The actor is also returning for the fourth Mummy movie, with directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett telling Variety: “I don’t think Brendan and Rachel are getting involved unless they love that script, and what they read, I think they really liked. And it’s a good script. It’s gonna be fun to make.”
John Hannah – Johnathan Carnahan
Fans of The Mummy will be rejoicing to learn that fan favourite character Johnathan is returning for the new film. Having appeared in all three Mummy movies, he is also best known for his role in Four Weddings and a Funeral.
Whilst he has sporadically appeared in films throughout the years he has found more success on TV with big roles in Spartacus, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, with minor roles in The Last of Us and Black Mirror. Since 2019 he has also voiced the BBC show Race Across The World.
He has been married to fellow actor Joanna Roth for 30 years, with two children Astrid and Gabriel Hannah.
Arnold Vosloo – Imhotep
Vosloo probably holds a major spot in the memory of most 90s kids, I personally was barely out of the toddler years when I first saw Vosloo’s Imhotep being Mummified whilst still alive to kick off the iconic movie.
Vosloo is the first main cast member not slated to return, probably because Imhotep has died in the series (twice).
The South African actor went on to star in Agent Cody Banks, 24, NCIS, and recently signed a deal with a local company to appear in more International projects, including the 2024 Afrikaans TV show Ludik as well as an upcoming ‘Tollywood’ Indian-Telugu film Ranabaali.
He told Newsweek in 2024 regarding the movie: “The power of this movie is amazing. People just love it.”
Oded Fehr – Ardeth Bay, and Kevin J O’Connor – Beni Gabor
If you had put a gun to my head I’d have been fairly confident Beni died at some point in the Mummy films, but everyone’s favourite sleezeball is actually confirmed to be returning for the upcoming sequel, as is Oded Fehr as Ardeth Bay.
Deadline confirmed the pair were set to return in a new report along with newcomer Numan Acar.
O’Connor acts quite sparingly these days, not having appeared in a project since 2020. Fehr meanwhile has appeared in recent editions of Star Trek, the TV show NCIS, and played a large role in the video game Destiny 2.
