Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights has promised through a controversial and viral press tour to be her raciest film yet, and by far the most X-Rated adaptation of the classic book to date.
Starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, the classic romance features a scene that has been promised to be even crazier than Saltburn’s most controversial scene.
Saltburn, which was also directed by Fennnell, saw Barry Keoghan’s character watching Jacob Elordi’s masturbate into a bathtub, rushing in after he leaves to drink up the sullied bathwater.
This, of course, is a pretty high bar to exceed and so many were shocked when Emerald Fennell hinted that she had a scene in Wuthering Heights which rivalled Saltburn’s bathtub hijinks.

Fennell was asked on a red carpet about the fact she had said that the bathtub was her first visual for Saltburn, and stated that the first visual she came up with for Wuthering Heights was ‘similar’ to the graphic scene, adding: “Something happens on a rock.”

When this came out people online speculated this could mean that she is taking things even further in Wuthering Heights, with one fan tweeting: “Is the rock okay? Does it need a therapist? Because I still haven't recovered from the bathtub.”
Another speculated as to what scene she could mean, suggesting it could be ‘even more shocking than Saltburn’.
So, what actually goes on with the rock and should we be worried?
Warning: Spoilers lie ahead for Wuthering Heights’ freakiest scenes
The scene in question sees Margot Robbie’s Catherine masturbating on a rock, with Heathcliff watching on.
He approaches her and, despite her protestation, goes in to kiss her, leading her to stuff grass in his mouth with her recently engaged hands.
He then proceeds to lift her to his eye level with one hand, lifting her by her corset.

Whilst some reviews have suggested they heard ‘squeals’ in the audience at this, it is pretty head scratching that this was considered even freakier.
One review of the film from The Independent said: “The supposedly “wild” Heathcliff never does anything to Cathy that couldn’t be spotted in the average Bridgerton episode… mostly, he sticks his fingers in her mouth.”
One Reddit thread suggested that, despite how hyped up the raciness of the film was they were disappointed, saying: “They could've cut the masturbation at the rock and him eating her out once or twice, and this easily would have been PG-13.”
The rock scene is not however the only shocking scene in the film. Arguably the even more shocking scene, which also perhaps exceeds Saltburn’s craziest moments, sees a young Catherine watch as a man is hung for raping a woman.
Unfortunately, he is ‘hung’ in both senses of the word, as two nuns play with his large erect penis after his death.
This is an Emerald Fennell film after all and, as Raven Smith asks in his review of the film for Cultured, ‘Is it an Emerald Fennell project if someone isn’t being sexually weird when they think nobody’s looking?’
Wuthering Heights is available to watch in cinemas now.
