Grand Theft Auto V Named As Best Game Of The Decade

Grand Theft Auto V has been crowned as the best game of the last decade in a LADbible Twitter poll in which over 9,000 people voted.

The Rockstar Games classic, which was released in 2013, was a game changer for the genre as it introduced a vast open world environment to players - meaning you could basically cause as much mayhem as you liked inbetween completing missions.

It beat three other classic titles - including games from the FIFA and Call of Duty franchises - to claim top spot with LADbible Twitter users.

Red Dead Redemption finished fourth, as Grand Theft Auto took 40 percent of the vote cast.

Earlier in the week, Call of Duty franchise booked its place in the final with 59 percent of the 8.6k votes.

The following day, it was a similar story as FIFA - one of the biggest selling franchises of the decade - took nearly half of all votes cast. Cue comments from PES fans about how it's not even the best football game, because biggest isn't always best is it?

Then it was the turn of Red Dead Redemption to kick Wild West ass, beating Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim into second place and consigning the massive but ultimately not very good Mass Effect 2 and Fortnite to the scrap heap.

But when it was time for Grand Theft Auto to tackle the group stages, it became clear it could well be the big winner overall - grabbing 81 percent of almost 10,000 votes cast.

As it turned out, GTAV did go on to claim the crown. The game itself was a huge effort - around 1,000 people were involved in its production over five years.

Set in the fictional areas of San Andreas and Los Santos, the game follows three crims, all trying to commit heists and stay out of jail.

It became the fastest-selling entertainment product in history, earning $800m (£600m) in its first day and $1bn (£765m) in its first three days, picking up rave reviews and awards along the way.

Not everyone was happy about some of the games up for the vote though - but they were all based on sales (a reasonable measure of popularity) rather than critical acclaim.

Ah well, can't please them all. Game of FIFA on the office PlayStation lads?
