Today marks the 15th birthday of Halo 2, the game some people have dubbed as 'the birth of online gaming'.

It's fair to say the franchise has come a long way since the initial game was launched on November 15 2001 but then the second edition was released and it soon became a fan favourite.

Gamers far and wide have taken to social media to shout out Halo 2 with one writing: "I wanna take a moment to wish Halo 2 a Happy Birthday, and to thank it for being the first ever Xbox game I played which introduced me to the FPS genre and got me so invested in Halo's universe to begin with. Also to thank for my elementary school grades dropping significantly."

Another wrote: "Today is my favorite Halo title's birthday. Happy 15 years Halo 2." While someone else expressed their shock: "Halo 2 is 15? I can distinctly remember going to Gamestop with my brother the day this came out and skipping school to play the campaign until we finished. Countless memories playing this series."

Taking to Twitter another gamer said: "15 years ago today marks the release of one of my favorite games ever made, Halo 2. It also marks a time when a group of friends came together and became brothers, it's awesome to see how much life has changed for all of us over this time, love you guys".

Another fan wrote: "Halo changed everything. Then Halo 2 changed everything again. And the train just kept going from there."

While we're on the Halo-hype, it might be worth mentioning that another game could be on the horizon.

A new post on LinkedIn seems to show that Halo studio 343 Industries is hiring a Lead Producer 'to help develop a new project in the Halo universe.'

If, like me, your thinking this is obviously just 343 hiring someone to come work on Halo Infinite, it is worth noting that previous job listings posted by the studio pertaining to Infinite specifically mention the game by name, rather than describing it as a 'new project in the Halo universe.'
