Now we're officially into 2026, that only means one thing for Grand Theft Auto fans. GTA 6 is finally being released this year. Or is it?

Late last year, fans of the gaming franchise were gutted to learn the release date had been pushed back for a second time, to 19 November, 2026.

And now we're on the final stretch counting down for the most eagerly anticipated game release of all time, there have been some murmurings about whether the November date will actually go ahead.

It comes after comments made by industry insider Jason Schreier, who recently appeared on the Button Mash podcast to talk about GTA 6.

Pretty soon into the episode, Schreier went against recent claims the game had been complete 'for a very long time,' saying he'd heard GTA 6 is not yet 'content complete'.

In November last year, Insider Gaming podcast host Tom Henderson said: "From what I've heard, it's been content ready for a very long time."

At the time, this appeared to be a common consensus among gaming experts, with YouTuber Reece Reilly, known as Kiwi Talkz, writing on X: "The game is content complete, all the work from here on out is optimising the hell out of it and making sure all the systems work to prevent a Cyberpunk [2077] scenario."

Given that Schreier doesn't work for Rockstar Games, the insider did highlight it's not up to him to say whether or not the game will be ready in time, so who knows?

After quite a stir was caused online following the release of the podcast, Schreier himself took to Reddit to reiterate that he did say he felt the 2026 deadline was a lot more concrete than the date set out last year.

"Despite this s***ty headline, if you listen to the actual context here it's me saying that I think fall 2026 is a more real release window than fall 2025 was," he wrote on a post in which someone highlighted his comment about the game being content incomplete.

Are we any further to knowing whether GTA 6 will actually land on shelves on 19 November? Probably not, no, but delay or not, millions of players may be heading for disappointment after learning they'll be unable to play.

PC users were already wondering if they would be able to join Xbox and PlayStation users on the game's release date, but it doesn't look like this will be the case.

Console users don't need to worry, but according to the boss of Take-Two, the parent company of Rockstar, PC gamers may be waiting that bit longer.

Speaking to IGN last year, Strauss Zelnick explained how the company released games: "So with Civilization 7, it's available on console and PC and Switch right away.

"With regard to others in our lineup, we don't always go across all platforms simultaneously. Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms."

LADbible has contacted Rockstar Games for comment.
