Carice Van Houten wants to reprise her role as Melisandre in House of the Dragon

Carice Van Houten wants to reprise her role as Melisandre in House of the Dragon

The character is hundreds of years old and we could soon see her weave her dark magic amongst the land of the dragons.

Game of Thrones actor Carice Van Houten has revealed she would like to reprise her role as Lady Melisandre in House of the Dragon.

Since the Game of Thrones spin-off’s first episode premiered around the world, Carice took to Instagram to explain how she would love to play the Red Priestess once again.

The actor reposted a fan's IG story pleading for her return.

She also explained that despite the show taking place 172 years before the scenes in Game of Thrones, Melisandre is centuries old. So, a future appearance is quite possible.

According to the character’s lore, the red witch was born in -100 BC, so showrunners, use this information how you see fit.

We can’t blame the actor for wanting to return to the GoT universe.

The House of the Dragon’s premiere was met with rave reviews and accumulated nearly 10 million viewers on HBO in the US alone.

Writer for Den of Geek, Alec Bojalad, marvelled at the cast, writing: “The acting in this first episode is superb, as it needs to be.

“Given the show’s understated historical fictional nature thus far, much of the action occurs internally within each character as they grapple with all the various contradictions required from their royal statuses.”

While journalist for the Los Angeles Times, Lorraine Ali, said the show ‘recaptures the power, grandeur of the original’.

She added: “This fresh chapter in the saga of the Seven Kingdoms is reverse-engineered to feed into narratives and family trees that are familiar to GoT devotees.”

The series is based on part of George R.R. Martin’s novel Fire & Blood and follows the House Targaryen era in the Seven Kingdoms.

It will also dive into the events that led up to the infamous Targaryen war known as ‘Dance of the Dragons’.

Despite the underwhelming eighth season of GoT, George R.R. Martin previously revealed that he had seen parts of the upcoming series, giving his mark of approval.

He wrote in a blog post: "Ryan and Miguel have done an amazing job, and the cast... just as with GAME OF THRONES, most viewers will only have heard of a few of the actors, but I think you are going to fall in love with a lot of them.”

He added: "(Only to have your heart broken later when... but no, that would be telling). I think the Targaryens are in very good hands. Anticipate away. I do not think you will be disappointed."

Here's hoping..
