The HBO boss has given fans a long-anticipated update on the famed fantasy drama series, House of the Dragon.

CEO of the network, Casey Bloys, confirmed that a second series is much closer than we think.

Check out the last season's finale:

The HBO television series, House Of The Dragon, first hit our screens back in August of last year.

And since its release, fans have been sent into a frenzy wondering when the next instalment to the fantasy show would begin.

Well, hold on to your hat, as the network's content chief, Bloys, has gave an update on when we can expect the show to make its grand return.

Speaking to Variety, Bloys explained that a decent script and solid plot are the most important factors when working on a show.

He began: "My philosophy is a good script is number one priority.

"I am not doing it based on wanting to have one a year, two a year. I want to do it based on the scripts that we’re excited about."

The HBO boss emphasised to eager fans the long and time-consuming process of sorting out an entire new season.

"Remember to get House of the Dragon following up from Game of Thrones, we developed a lot of shows, shot a pilot, developed a bunch of scripts and we got House of the Dragon," Bloys explained.

He went on to say: "To do that again is going to take the same amount of effort.

"You have to develop a lot of things, try things. You never know what’s going to work."

"So," he revealed, "we’re currently doing that."

While he admitted he's 'not opposed' to any number of shows, Bloys did note that there's probably a 'natural limit' to how many shows fans actually want.

"But I’m open to any as long as we feel really good about the scripts and the prospects for a series," he added.

He explained that it 'takes a while' to finally create a show that really 'hits the mark' so the creators have all agreed that they want to do one that everybody’s 'really proud of and excited about'.

While he has not yet confirmed an exact date or time yet, Bloys did reveal that sometime in 2024 'is a good guess' for the hit series to make a return on our screens.

However, he did also note that the second series will not be eligible for the 2024 Emmy season - which stops at the end of May - so fans can get ready to expect a return in summer of 2024.
