Idris Elba has made a final decision on being the next James Bond as fans continue to speculate whether the Luther star will step in after Daniel Craig handed over his keys to the Aston Martin.

The 50-year-old actor has been pitched as the favourite for the next 007 for some time now, despite the fact that we're no closer to finding out an official contender.

Fans have speculated who's in line next ever since Craig finished playing the character with 2021's No Time to Die, so much so that it's gone full circle.

FYI, the Glass Onion star isn't planning on returning to the role anytime soon.

As for Elba, he was asked about his thoughts on the matter while attending the World Government Summit in Dubai this week.

And it seems he's focused on one thing and one thing only right now - the upcoming Luther film The Fallen Sun.

Sorry to anyone hoping to see Elba as the next Bond, but it's clear he's not keen on the idea of sipping shaken martinis in the future.

While discussing the 'very dark' Luther movie, he took himself out of the running for playing Bond, implying he's simply too invested in current detective role.

Elba said: "We've been working on the television show for about 10 years and so the natural ambition is to take it to the big screen, and so we're here with the first movie.

"You know, a lot of people talk about another character that begins with J and ends with B, but I'm not going to be that guy.

"I'm going to be John Luther. That's who I am.”

Elba's comments echo those made to LADbible while promoting his film Beast last year when he refused to comment on what makes the perfect Bond.

It appears he's done having those conversations - fans are just going to have to turn their attention elsewhere until the producers finally put them out of their misery and make a choice.

But that's not to say there's nothing to be excited about, especially since Luther: The Fallen Sun will drop later this month - 24 February, folks, followed by a Netflix release on 10 March.

Luther: The Fallen Sun lands on Netflix next month.

Per the official synopsis: "In Luther: The Fallen Sun a gruesome serial killer is terrorising London while brilliant but disgraced detective John Luther (Idris Elba) sits behind bars.

"Haunted by his failure to capture the cyber psychopath who now taunts him, Luther decides to break out of prison to finish the job by any means necessary."

The flick is also set to see Detective John Luther leave his usual London backdrop and go further afield.

First look shots shared last month showed at least one location will feature plenty of snow.

Elba will be appearing in the movie alongside the likes of Genius star Cynthia Erivo and Andy Serkis of Lord of the Rings fame.
