Adam Sandler's Happy Gilmore Tees Off Against Shooter McGavin On 25th Anniversary Of Iconic Film

Adam Sandler's Happy Gilmore Tees Off Against Shooter McGavin On 25th Anniversary Of Iconic Film

Adam Sandler has proved he's still got it when it comes to cracking out that infamous Happy Gilmore golf swing - even if he hasn't done it in 25 years.

Ahead of the iconic flick's 25th anniversary, Sandler posted a video to social media showing his golfing skills were still up to par and even called out Shooter McGavin (played by Christopher McDonald).

Revealing he hadn't dusted off the famous move since the film, Sandler approached the golf ball and told the camera: "I'm scared. Shooter McGavin, this is for you."

He added: "And I'm not lying to you that is smashed, smashed. That went pretty well. You're dead, Shooter."

Ben Stiller - who portrayed Nana's evil caretaker at the nursing home in the movie - even added a cheeky in-character message in reply to the video.

Stiller wrote: "That's a beautiful swing, Mr. Gilmore. Congrats on your anniversary, and being such a loving grandson. So happy to be a small part of taking good care of her during her 'golden years'."

As if the moment wasn't exciting enough, fans of Happy Gilmore were soon dealt a second delicious helping of nostalgia when Christopher McDonald - in character as Shooter McGavin - responded to Sandler's video by showing off his own putting prowess.

The quotes came in thick and fast, with one Twitter user commenting: "Mr Larson might be in a better place now but you can still count.... on him... waiting for you in the parking lot Shooter."

Another added: "Just stay out of my way... or you'll pay! LISTEN to what I say!"

The PGA's official Twitter also paid homage to the legendary golf movie with a montage of pro golfers doing 'Happy Gilmore shots'.

Since its 1996 release, the film has remained a popular favourite among fans, with Happy's famous swing even being used by some PGA Tour professionals over the years.

In case you've been living under a rock for the past 25 years, Happy Gilmore followed the story of an aspiring - and angry - hockey player who lacks the appropriate on-ice skills and eventually turns to golf to raise money to get his nana's house back.

While the upper crust golfing world initially sneers at his lack of etiquette, he soon proves to be a powerhouse in the sport, beating rival Shooter McGavin and winning the prestigious gold jacket.
