Johnny Depp Gifted 500 Crew With Warm Coats On Pirates Of The Caribbean Set

The star forked out $75,000 of his own money to make sure the crew were comfortable amid frosty filming conditions.

A Pirates of the Caribbean co-star says Johnny Depp gifted hundreds of crew members with warm coats during production to make sure they were comfortable in the cold British weather.

According to his co-star, Kevin McNally, who played Mr Gibbs in the films, Depp was incredibly generous to everyone.

He told the Daily Express: "He bought the entire crew coats, the cast didn't see any coats. I think he didn't want to spoil us!"

"He also did get the entire crew some very nice wallets imprinted with the tattoo he has on his arm."

In 2010, a crew member told the press that Depp had given away 500 coats worth $75,000 during the filming of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

Now, McNally has backed that up and said Geoffrey Rush, who played Captain Barbossa in the film saga, also gave a parting gift to the Pirates family.

"Geoffrey Rush gave everyone a black pearl at the end of the first film, which I still have," said McNally.

"And after 20 years I've not managed to have it mounted in any way whatsoever! Maybe I'll get onto that when I get home!"

A sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film is reportedly in the making, but Depp won't feature in the film.

Margot Robbie has confirmed she will be stepping into the lead role of the film, with the actor reportedly pushing for a twist on the role.

A source told Express that Robbie wants the character to be LGBTQI.

Robbie and the team behind the Pirates franchise haven't commented on this update, but it might be the point of difference the movies need after losing their leading man.

While Disney appears to be heading in a new direction for the film franchise, Kevin McNally believes Depp should be allowed to return as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Depp was famously dumped from the film saga after his ex-wife, Amber Heard, spoke about their abusive and toxic marriage.

But the Mr Gibbs actor told the Express: "I've never seen a hint of any dark side to Johnny.

"I see a great humanitarian and a beautiful human being. I don't see any impediment for him coming back and playing Jack Sparrow.

"I think there was a general feeling that without Jack there is no Pirates franchise. And there's probably a lot of truth in that.

"But now there have been questions about that, certainly why not have other Pirate films and certainly then why not have Jack back or Jack playing a different part."
