Macaulay Culkin says Home Alone 2 is better than the first movie for one hilarious reason

Home Alone favourite Macaulay Culkin has revealed which film from the franchise he starred in was his favourite - and the answer is hilarious.

Although the franchise has six films, it's clear that the ones fans are rewatching every Christmas are the ones starring Macaulay Culkin.

Bringing us a stellar cast featuring Catherine O'Hara and Joe Pesci and iconic lines like 'Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals', it's easy to see why.

But if you had to ask fans whether they preferred Home Alone or Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, they might have to pause for thought - but not Culkin.

Recently making an appearance on YouTube's Hot Ones, Home Alone obviously came up in conversation, with the host asking which movie the Richie Rich star preferred.

Nearly without hesitation, Culkin replied: “Home Alone 2."

But why? Well, as you can imagine with most things, it all came down to money - and we can't say we blame him.

Culkin went on to say: "I got paid more. I think I own five percent of the net. And also 15 perfect of the merchandising. So, if you buy a Talkboy I’m like yeah, I’ll take 15 percent of that. Thank you very much. By the way, buy a Talkboy this Christmas.”

Culkin's movies both dominated at the box office at the time of their release in comparison to the third instalment. Home Alone opened with $17,081,997 at the box office, with Home Alone 2 nearly doubling that by opening with $31,126,882, according to Box Office Mojo.

Money aside, the franchise has remained close to Culkin's heart, who recently got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Joined by his wife, Disney Channel alum Brenda Song, Culkin was also joined by his Home Alone on-screen mum, Catherine O'Hara.

O'Hara and Culkin have kept their fondness for each other, with O'Hara saying at the time: “Home Alone was, is and always will be a beloved global sensation … the reason families all over the world can’t let a year go by without watching and loving Home Alone together is because of Macaulay Culkin.

“I know you worked really hard, I know you did, but you made acting look like the most natural thing in the world to do.”

Culkin used his speech to heap praise on his family, saying: "I'd like to thank Brenda. You are absolutely everything. You're my champion.

"You're the only person happier for me today than I am. You're not only the best woman I've ever known, you're the best person I've ever known. You've given me just all my purpose. You've given me family."

In true Kevin McCallister fashion, the Uncle Buck star wrapped up his speech with: “In the spirit of the holiday season, I just want to say, Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals."

That's our Kevin.
