Weird reason why people love Margot Robbie’s feet so much in new trailer

Weird reason why people love Margot Robbie’s feet so much in new trailer

There's an explanation behind the bizarre obsession

There's a reason why people seem to be so obsessed with Margot Robbie's feet in the new Barbie trailer.

Directed by Greta Gerwig, a huge chunk of the comedy's trailer seems to be entirely focused on the Aussie star's trotters and people are eating it up.

And it's not just excitement over the upcoming flick - there's a much deeper reason behind the fascination with The Wolf of Wall Street star's tootsies.

Set to be hit our screens later this summer, the plot of the film follows the character of Barbie, played by Robbie, who gets expelled from Barbieland for being a 'less than perfect-looking doll'.

She then sets off for the human world in hopes to find some 'true happiness' and has a whole bunch of wild adventures to get there.

And, while many fans are buzzing for the movie, it seems a huge focus is on the leading lady's feet.

The opening shot of the trailer sees Robbie walking across a room in pink fluffy heels which she then slips off as she carries on prancing on pointed toes.

And let's just say that audiences went wild for it.

The trailer sent the internet into a total foot-frenzy with many vowing that they would nab a cinema ticket just to see Robbie's feet up on the big screen.

One user tweeted: "The first shot of the Barbie The Movie trailer is a shot of Margot Robbie's feet. They know there's a massive group of guys that will pay to see this in IMAX."

"I'm at the point where I think I could pick out Margot Robbie's feet in a lineup," a second revealed.

A third admitted: "Margot Robbie's feet really about to make me buy a ticket to Barbie," while another admirer gushed: "CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW PRETTY MARGOT ROBBIE'S FEET ARE?"

So what is the actual reason why so many people are so obsessed with the Suicide Squad star's feet?

A foot fetish is also known as 'Podophilia'.

The bizarre phenomenon all comes down to sex - well, fetish, to be specific.

While sexual fetishes have been around for as long as humans have, it's clear there's a particular fetish that is getting talked about way more than any of the others.

A foot fetish, also known as 'podophilia' is defined by Medical News Today as: "Where feet, legs, stockings, shoes, or socks trigger sexual arousal in a person."

There are a whole bunch of theories surrounding the sexual fetish, one of which points to 'Father of Psychology' Sigmund Freud, who believed that 'fetishes arose during early childhood'.

Medical News Today explains: "He suggested that when a child saw their mother’s genitals, they were shocked to find that their mother did not have a penis, leading to a fixation on objects or body parts that looked like penises."

Another theory, put forward by Stuart Nugent, a sex toy expert, broke the fetish down into three parts: psychological, neurological and biological.

Echoing Freud, the psychological element revolves around the idea that 'sexual responses are paired with non-sexual objects, like feet, very early in a person’s psychosexual development'.

"A neurological theory suggests that podophilia might develop because the feet and genitals occupy adjacent areas in the brain’s somatosensory cortex," Nugent continues, "and there might be some sort of neurological wires being crossed."

The fetish could be down to a 'subversion of traditional sexual and cultural roles'.

Finally, the biological theory is that the 'scent of feet' can 'trigger a hormonal reaction in some people'.

Whatever the reason behind the fetish, the sexpert confirms there's one particular outcome that 'practitioners find particularly attractive' which is 'the sensation of dominance and submission that feet represent'.

He adds: "This is due to the prevalence of podophiles being straight men worshipping women’s feet: this implies a subversion of traditional sexual and cultural roles which may offer the fetishist a highly sexualised inversion of stereotypes, the subversive nature of which is translated into sexual excitement."

So, there you have it, that's why so many dudes are thirsting over Robbie's feet.
