Netflix has announced that Top Boy is to return for a third and final season, with filming to start this summer. Feast your eyes on a short teaser trailer to get yourself excited.

Confirming exactly that, the show’s official account tweeted: “Every TOP BOY has their time... and that time is coming.

“TOP BOY will return for the third and final season, filming starts this summer.”

So, if you’re getting a bit confused by all of this, you’re not alone.

There are actually more series of Top Boy than three, but this is the third series to come to Netflix, and it’ll be the last.

The series started out on Channel 4 back in 2011, and a second season followed.

Though a third season was written, it was never picked up.

Channel 4’s loss turned out to be Netflix’s gain – as is so often the case.

The world’s largest streaming platform snapped the show up in late 2017, ordering 10 new episodes.

Then, a second season came along earlier this year, before this announcement of a third.

Netflix

The first two series are now known as Top Boy: Summerhouse – after the fictional East London estate featured in the show – in order to create a distinction between the two incarnations.

Netflix’s official synopsis reads: “The critically acclaimed series, TOP BOY, is to return to Netflix for one more season - set to be the final that will decide who can reign as Top Boy of Summerhouse.

“Following the release of TOP BOY Season 2 on Netflix on 18th March 2022, the show quickly went to number 1 in the UK as audiences switched on to watch Jamie get out of prison and disrupt Dushane’s unrivalled rule of Summerhouse, and Sully emerge from his reclusive life to ride out for family.

“The finale of the season left fans with their jaws-dropping.

“Now the stakes are at their highest and it’s time for the final reckoning.”

The new series will see Ashley Walters and Kane Robinson reprise their roles as Dushane and Sully, and it's been executive produced by music megastar Drake.

Netflix

In a statement, stars Walters and Robinson said: “For those that have followed the journey from the start, you will know how much this show means to everyone on our team and we wholeheartedly know how much it means to you.

“These characters have been a part of our lives for over a decade now and without everyone’s support we couldn’t have come this far.

“Whilst the journeys of Dushane and Sully have remained at the core of the show, the new characters that have entered the world of Top Boy have become a key part of the show’s legacy, representing each new storyline in a raw, authentic way.

“With all this being said, and staying true to our original goal, every story must have an ending and so season three will be our finale.

“A chance to come full circle and end the journey in the right way.

“We’re very excited about what’s next and thank you for riding with us.

“We appreciate you. See you again soon.”
