A 'highly underrated' horror that has just one day left on Netflix has been praised for its huge plot twist.

Horror fans are spoilt for choice when it comes to new, underrated films that they haven't seen before, but you may want to put this one at the top of your list seeing as there's only 24 hours left to watch.

Released in 2009, this supernatural horror film stars Renee Zellweger - best known for her roles in hit romcoms Bridget Jones's Diary franchise and Jerry Maguire, it is often forgotten that the actress is one of the 'scream queens' of Hollywood.

The 54-year-old's major breakthrough came in The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, so this isn't her first venture into the genre.

This film also stars Bradley Cooper and Ian McShane alongside Jodelle Ferland in its main cast.

Despite featuring some big stars, the film only managed to gross $28.1 million (£22.3 million) at the box office against a budget of $26 million (£20.6 million), and with critics widely panning the film, it ebbed away into obscurity.

But with the age of social media and fans driving success of films and TV, the 15-year-old film has had a resurgence in popularity, with many dubbing it as 'underrated'.

It's called Case 39, and you can view the trailer here:

The film follows social worker Emily Jenkins (Zellweger), who tries and succeeds in saving a girl named Lilith (Ferland) from her violent parents with the help of Detective Mike Barron (McShane).

Her parents had attempted to roast her alive in an oven, and were sent to a mental asylum following the episode.

Lilith begs not to be sent to a foster home, wanting to stay with Emily, which she agrees to until a suitable foster family becomes available.

When she moves in, Emily discovers that things are lot more dangerous and unusual that previously expected.

The film has a lowly score of 21 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, but with several fans raving about it online, it's definitely worth a watch, seeing as it will be taken off Netflix for good on Saturday, 30 March.

A gripping Good Friday watch could be on the cards!

Viewers of Case 39 have continued to rave about the film, posting their thoughts on the horror on X, formerly Twitter.

One user commented: "Twitter is full of love for horror movies, but I don’t see nearly enough people talking about Case 39 (2009). Highly underrated and worth a watch.

"Renée Zellweger is a scream queen through and through."

Another simply said: "Case 39 is so underrated"

A third posted: "Case 39 was a realllly good thriller/horror film. Like it was actually scary.
