Angi was close to a woman called Ana Paez, a fashion designer, who was found dead in her apartment in 2008.
The 35-year-old’s death became a widespread matter of public debate with it becoming dubbed ‘The Near-Perfect Crime’.
The murder was brutal, with Angi drugging Paez and then placed a plastic bag over her head and sealing it shut with tape.
Angi tried to cover up the crime by planting semen she had gathered from male prostitutes who she paid to ejaculate into a jar, trying to make it appear as a sexual assault gone wrong.
Why did Angi kill Ana Paez?
Angi disguised herself in order to take loans and life insurance policies against Paez which totalled in the millions.

These were taken out to benefit a woman who was totally unconnected to the case and left her ID in a photocopy shop by accident, with the scammer taking it.
The woman, who had numerous identities, tried to hide behind various alibis that fell apart when documents and unopened chloroform was found in her apartment.
She was convicted of murder, being sentenced to 22 years in total.

What is the Netflix documentary about?
Netflix’s documentary not only focuses on Angi’s shocking murder of Paez and attempts to cover it up, but her life as a whole.

This also focuses on the death of her husband from 1996 who himself died suddenly in mysterious circumstances.
The director Carlos Agulló states that looking into her life and various identities was like walking through a ‘hall of mirrors’.
He went on to say: “We reviewed over 2,000 pages of legal documents, reports, and family files. We conducted more than 60 interviews with retired police officers, detectives, and people close to both cases.
“It was a multifaceted investigation—just like Angi’s many identities.”
Angi: Fake Life, True Crime is available to watch on Netflix now.
