Viewers so hooked on new Netflix Sci-Fi series it's stacked up 81,000,000 viewing hours in one week

People are hooked on the thrilling sci-fi series which landed on Netflix just a week ago

Although people had low expectations for how Netflix's latest science fiction series would perform on the streaming platform, the numbers are speaking for themselves.

A lot of viewers were reluctant to tune into the thrilling new show due to the fact Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are behind it - and we all know how that ended.

Badly, according to most fans of the fantasy series.

So seen as though they had been drastically disappointed by how Game of Thrones wrapped up, a lot of Netflix subscribers didn't want to give Benioff and Weiss a second chance and sit down to watch their latest project.

But it seems the pair of producers might have redeemed themselves by collaborating with True Blood's Alexander Woo on the new series 3 Body Problem - as people have been loving it. Take a look at the trailer here:

As you can see, it's some pretty intense stuff.

The sci-fi series, which is loosely based on the Chinese novel The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin, explores how a woman’s 'fateful decision' back in the 1960s in China 'reverberates across space and time into the present day'.

It kicks off during China’s Cultural Revolution in the ’60s, but goes on to explore various continents and decades as 'five brilliant friends make earth-shattering discoveries as the laws of science unravel and an existential threat emerges'.

The Netflix synopsis for 3 Body Problem explains: "When the laws of nature inexplicably unravel, a tight-knit group of brilliant scientists must join forces with an unflinching detective and a mysterious intelligence agency to save the world."

Although some critics haven't been too impressed by the series, everyone tuning in still can't seem to turn it off.

Netflix

Well, that's according to the extraordinary number of viewing hours it has racked up since landing on the streaming platform last week (21 March) - which is 81,000,000, to be exact.

Maybe it's the fact that the likes of John Bradley, Benedict Wong, Eiza González, Liam Cunningham and Alex Sharp, are starring in it...or maybe Benioff, Weiss and Woo are just simply onto a winner.

Social media users reckon it's the latter, as they shared their praise for 3 Body Problem on X.

One said: "It's very rare to sit through an entire series lately without losing interest. 3 Body Problem was 10/10."

Another said: "One episode into 3 Body Problem...HOOKED."

A third added: "Just finished 3 Body Problem and I NEED to lay my hands on the book, cause I'm not waiting another two years for Netflix to satisfy my curiosity."

A fourth added: "3 Body Problem on Netflix is so intense."

The series has stormed its way into the weekly top 10 list of the most-watched TV shows in English and is sitting pretty in the number two spot with 11,000,000 views and 81,7000,000 hours viewed so far.

3 Body Problem also made it onto the same list in another 93 countries - so it's not a bad debut, is it?

Cixin's novel was initially considered 'unadaptable' by filmmakers due to it's complicated plot and confusing timeline, although apparently Benioff, Weiss and Woo have done a decent job of mastering it.

The trio admitted it was a 'daunting project' to take on, but Woo explained that people in their line of work often have to 'block out some noise' to bring their vision to life.
