Netflix viewers have been left divided over the platform's new thriller and whether it is even worth finishing.

The Killer, directed by David Fincher, is based on the French graphic novel series written by Alexis 'Matz' Nolent, sharing the same name.

Michael Fassbender stars in the movie as a professional assassin alongside Charles Parnell, Arliss Howard, Sophie Charlotte, and Tilda Swinton.

Check out the trailer below:

A brief synopsis from Netflix reads: "After a fateful near-miss, an assassin battles his employers, and himself, on an international manhunt he insists isn’t personal."

The film had a brief release in selected cinemas in October, and it is now available to stream on Netflix.

The Killer garnered a lot of praise after hitting the streaming service on 10 November, with some viewers even going as far as to say it’s the best movie of the year.

One person wrote: "The Killer is my favorite movie of the year in a way that speaks to my soul but this is obviously the best movie of the year."

Another added: "Important reminder that The Killer is now streaming on Netflix. Go watch one of the best and coolest movies of the year."

While a third praised: "The Killer is now streaming on Netflix! It’s one of Fincher’s best and among my favorites of the year. I cannot recommend enough."

Michael Fassbender plays the titular role in The Killer.

After the hype of its initial release, it appears viewers are now divided over the thriller, with the ending seeming to have left several confused.

A number of viewers that have tried to watch The Killer claimed it was 'boring', 'not good', and 'so so' among other things in response to a Facebook post that praised the film.

The original review, shared in the Netflix Bangers group, said: "If you haven't watched this yet I highly recommend it! Not your average cheesy hitman action type film.

The Killer has divided viewers despite its star-studded cast.

"The Cinematography was 10 out of 10. The use of different lighting, angles etc.. was beautifully done.

"I can't wait to see if they take this into a part 2. I feel like it should have been a whole series!"

However, one viewer replied: "Unfortunately it followed suit with most Netflix productions. Just doesn’t rise to a movie worthy of watching again or paying money to see in the theatre."

Another brutally commented: "Boring. Couldn’t get into it even when the action kicked in."

Someone else also said: "Is this what you call a good movie?? It's so boring."

The film currently has a 86 percent critic score on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes and an audience score of 63 percent.
