The Platform 2 viewers are confused after shocking twist completely changes their view of first Netflix film

Some said it completely changed their view of The Platform

The sequel to one of Netflix’s most out-of-nowhere hits of the last few years, The Platform, is now out on the streamer, and viewers are confused at a shocking twist.

Despite only landing today (4 October), The Platform 2 has already received mixed reviews from viewers and critics alike.

The first film - which was released in 2019 - was a massive shock success, with lots of critical buzz and huge viewing numbers.

Shot by Spanish director Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, the creative mind behind the film is back in the sequel.

Both movies centre around the titular Platform - a multi-layer prison in which food is disseminated from the top.

Those at the bottom starve, and those at the top horde, and some are even pushed to the extreme of cannibalism.

Spoiler warning: if you read beyond this point you forego all rights to yell at me about spoilers.

Checked out if you haven’t seen the sequel yet or just someone who doesn’t care about spoilers?

Good.

The shocking twist in The Platform 2 which has viewers scratching their head is the return of Trimagasi (played by Zorion Eguileor), one of the main villains from the first film.

In the first movie, Trimagasi has his throat slit by a girl called Miharu (Alexandra Masangkay).

Goreng (Ivan Massagué), the protagonist of the film, is encouraged by Miharu and eats Trimagasi's flesh - which cause him to hallucinate the villain for the rest of the Netflix flick.

One post on Reddit read: “So I watched The Platform 2 as soon as it got on Netflix and all I can say is that it f**ked me up real bad. I loved The Platform 1 and I couldn’t wait till The Platform 2 to come out but … what the f**k did I actually watch????

“Spoiler: What the hell was Trimagasi doing in the Pit? I thought he died in The Platform 1?”

Upon discussion in the comments, they realised that in actual fact - the sequel is a prequel, though it hasn’t necessarily been marketed as such.

One comment on Reddit read: “I just literally finished it and I'm a bit confused, not had time to really dwell on it. I thought I would see others perspective on it here but people seem just as confused if not more.

“I thought that can't be Trimagasi from the first film right maybe they just used the same actor but nope he pulls out his knife from first film.

“It's set before the events of the first film not a straight sequel.”

One theory read: “I watched the first one again and I think its only link from the second one is when Trimagasi told Goreng ‘not to talk to the ones above or below’, similar how to the girl in the second one first met Trimagasi.

“I'm assuming its Trimagasi's first month on the second movie thats why he wasnt very familiar with the rules and no one really told him they're just saying how ‘the anointed ones’ are oppressing anyone the doesn't follow the absolute rule”.

Whatever your theory, fans are deeply confused - but you can bet many will still be running to go watch the sequel.

The Platform 2 is available to stream on Netflix now.
