Having said very little about it so far, Noah Schnapp has finally opened up about a very rumoured plot point among Stranger Things fans.
No, not about Will’s powers compared to Millie Bobby Brown's Eleven’s powers, or why he was even taken by Vecna in the first place, but about ‘Byler’.
Schnapp has teased the ‘conclusion’ for the relationship between longtime best pals Will and Mike (Finn Wolfhard) as the Netflix show is set to come to its grand finale.
It’s been a Stranger Things fan theory for years now that Will is secretly gay and in love with his friend. And that’s pretty much been confirmed at this point, with the actor openly discussing his character’s queerness and the conversations had in the recently released episodes.

From a minor moment right at the beginning of the latest season to the discussions Will has with Robin (Maya Hawke), it’s pretty obvious Will has a thing for Mike – but what’s to come of that?
Well, Schnapp has said that the show’s creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, ‘close it really well’ regarding the pals’ relationship.
“Look, it’s like a real, authentic representation of a queer kid in the ’80s,” he said during a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live.
“I’ve dealt with that myself, being in love with my best friend, and maybe they don’t love you back, or maybe they feel differently. I’m not gonna spoil anything, but I think the Duffers close it really well.”
Regardless of what some fans may want and have practically begged for, it does seem unrealistic that Stranger Things will end with a full romantic Byler relationship.
And Wolfhard also ruled out this possibility as he told Attitude that it ‘wouldn’t feel that earned’.

Schnapp previously also opened up about the gap between seasons of the show being beneficial for his own personal journey – allowing him to then give a better performance as Will.
"If I filmed it few years ago, yeah, I wouldn’t have had anywhere close to the amount of inner belief that I could harness," the 21-year-old explained to Variety. "No, it wouldn’t have been as strong."
The star publicly came out as gay in January 2023, months after confirming for the first time that Will is gay and in love with Mike.
"I have found through the years a lot more confidence and strength in myself," Schnapp added.
Stranger Things 5 Volume 1 is currently streaming on Netflix. Volume 2 drops at 1am UK time on 26 December and the final, Volume 3, drops at 1am on 1 January, 2026.
