Sex Education fans are still going wild for the casting of Adam Groff and his on-screen dad, Principal Groff, four years after the pair made their show debut.

The well-loved series starring the likes of Gillian Anderson, Asa Butterfield and Emma Mackey has finally come to an end (much to Netflix viewers' dismay) after four wonderful seasons.

The final season dropped on the streaming platform last week, Thursday, 21 September.

Of course, the series follows the ongoing romance between Maeve (Mackey) and Otis (Butterfield), as well as Otis' mum Jean's (Anderson) new life as a mum-of-two, but it also continues to follow the relationship between Adam - played by Connor Swindells - and his dad.

The pair have had an undeniably strained relationship in previous series, but season four sees Michael Groff (Alistair Petrie) work on himself to become a better, more available father for his teenage son.

Seeing their relationship blossom has warmed the hearts of Sex Education fans as they continued to gush over what a brilliant on-screen father-son duo Petrie and Swindells make.

"The way they casted Adam Groff and his dad in sex education is incredible," one person recently shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.

"The casting of Headmaster Groff and Adam on Sex Education," said someone else, followed by a string of OK hand emojis.

"They have to be father and son in real life wow."

People have also continued to note their uncanny resemblance to one another.

One wrote: "The casting for Adam and his father was really scarily accurate. I’d really believe a younger Mr. Groff looked very similar to Adam."

"The casting couldn't be more accurate. They perfectly pass as dad and son," added another.

A third continued: "I canNOT get over the casting of Adam and Mr. Groff in Sex Education. Their resemblance is perfect for father and son and their acting is phenomenal too?? Makes me lose my mind every time I see them on screen together."

Swindells has previously addressed people's comments and hailed Petrie as 'amazing'.

He told LADbible in 2021: "Working with Alistair's amazing, he's such a fantastic human being and I can't speak highly of him enough.

"He's really a special person and a phenomenally talented actor, and someone that I look up to and copy and emulate because he is so brilliant."

The feeling is certainly mutual as when Petrie was asked about fans obsession with the father-son pair, how much they look alike, and whether or not they are really related, he said: "Ha, really? That was funny. I can confirm that he's not my real son, although I do love him dearly. He's like an extra son to me. I have two boys but I really do consider Connor my third son.

"He's such an incredible talent. They cast him before they cast me, and I remember when we got together and read for the first time, everyone in the room was like: 'ah, ok, I think we've got something here'."

Discussing Petrie's comments of seeing him as another son, Swindells added: "That is very, very sweet. I didn't know about that."

The fourth and final series of Sex Education is now streaming on Netflix.
