Stranger Things season 5 volume 2 trailer released with character death hints

Netflix has given a secret hint that some of your favourite characters might be goners

Netflix has given a major secret hint to the possible deaths in Stranger Things season five, volume two, after releasing a new trailer for the show’s next release of episodes.

Following the release of the Netflix show’s first volume of season five, fans on social media have gone into overdrive trying to figure out which of the main characters are going to die.

Whether it be fans on Reddit convinced that Eleven is going to sacrifice herself or fans on X guessing that eventually Hopper has to die after the 100th fake-out, it has been a hot topic of discussion for Stranger Things fans.

Now, the new trailer for volume two of season five has given a big hint about who that may be, as well as a sneaky hint from Netflix on their social media.

Check out the trailer here:

Watching the trailer, you’d be forgiven for thinking that nearly anyone could die in the upcoming episodes if it weren’t for one moment in which Dustin and Steve tell each other, “You die, I die.”

It stands out even more, however, when you realise what Netflix changed their bio to: “You Die, I Die.”

In a trailer full of memorable moments, the streamer putting it in their bio looks like it might spell doom for Steve and Dustin.

The quote was posted on X by DiscussingFilm, with the replies full of fans in varying states of panic over the hints that the fan favourite duo could be goners.

One replied saying: "No way the Duffers are this cruel. I'm not ready for Christmas to hurt this bad."

Another posted a GIF of Dwight screaming, saying: "DON'T DO THAT TO ME!"

The Duffer Brothers, Matt and Ross, who created the show, have previously spoken about the possibility of major character deaths in the coming episodes, pouring water on the fire.

Matt told Variety: "I've said this before: The show is not Game of Thrones. I'm hoping it surprises people. But there's no Red Wedding, if that's what you're asking. That would be depressing."

Many fans were shocked at the seeming deterioration of the relationship between Steve and Dustin in Volume One, something which Gaten Matarazzo himself commented on.

Speaking to Deadline about Volume One, the actor talked about those who 'suffer loss' often 'push away from those who are trying their best to comfort them'.

Dustin, still plagued by the death of Eddie Munson in season five, has pushed away both Steve and the core gang in the early episodes.

Speaking about his character, Matarazzo said: "It almost feels like if he’s not miserable all the time, then he’s not doing it right... and somebody who makes him happy, somebody who makes him feel comfortable, is Steve."

Stranger Things season five, volume two, releases on 26 December.
