Warning: This article contains spoilers for Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 2
With most of us having just about processed the events of Volume 2, Stranger Things fans are convinced a certain someone will be revealed as a ‘traitor’ when the finale drops.
Despite many viewers absolutely slamming them, the latest drop of episodes featured some major moments. With the Upside Down finally explained and the end of Jancy (whether we knew that or not), fans have got a lot on their plates ahead of the final ever Stranger Things episode.
That, of course, includes just what Eleven’s (Millie Bobby Brown) fate is, as let’s be honest, many of us fear for what will happen if she follows Kali’s (Linnea Berthelsen) plan and stays on the bridge.

And it’s partly because of this that fans have theorised she is a ‘traitor’.
You’ve got to admit that she’s been seeming a little bit sus during Volume 2, and so her basically trying to convince El into what is essentially a suicide pact doesn’t help.
It comes after ‘number eight’ explained that she believes Dr Kay (Linda Hamilton) kept her alive and drugged in a bid to get Dr Brenner’s (Matthew Modine) secret government program going again by infusing pregnant women with her blood.
But as this is not working, she reckons Kay is desperately trying to get Eleven to use her blood instead.
And Kali believes that even if the gang do manage to destroy both the Upside Down and the lab, Dr Kay would just be replaced with another scientist to do the same thing with El.
So, she claims that the only way to put a real end to it isn’t for our star to run away with Mike (Finn Wolfhard) afterwards, but to stay behind on the bridge with Kali when it blows up.
However, a lot of fans really don’t trust Kali – and not just because she’s being a bit of a downer.

Sure, she could just be being totally genuine, but hey, even Hopper (David Harbour) has said he’s suspicious.
“It is so obvious Kali is the traitor,” one user wrote on X as others suggested she might try to show memories to Eleven to trick her into following her plan.
“Kali is the most suspicious character to me right now,” another agreed, as a third Stranger Things fan wrote on Reddit: “I wouldn’t be surprised if she was the ‘traitor’ and secretly agreed with Vecna as she has nothing to lose at this point.”
While Kali and El still refer to each other as ‘sisters’, many fans find it pretty weird that she would still refer to Vecna/Henry (Jamie Campbell Bower) as ‘brother’.
“Something certainly seems off about her,” many agreed.
But others simply just think she’s ‘realistic’ and that there’s ‘nothing to distrust’ as one put: “Hot take: Kali’s not wrong.”
Stranger Things Season 5 Volumes 1 and 2 are now streaming on Netflix. The finale lands at 1am on 1 January 2026.
