It wouldn't be Star Wars Day without a bit of news from the franchise and today is no different, as Disney has just released a new trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The countdown is officially on for the release of the highly anticipated new series, with just 23 days to go until Ewan McGregor returns to his iconic role.

Disney got fans hyped for the release of the trailer with a short clip announcing its imminent arrival today (4 May), promising some new revelations after the first look was revealed with a teaser in March.

Though excitement for the show will leave many desperate to binge the series as soon as it arrives, Disney will be forcing fans to be patient with only the first two episodes arriving on the streaming service on 27 May.

The release follows a pattern of other original releases on Disney+, such as The Mandalorian, so Star Wars fans will hopefully be well versed in the procedure by now.

Still, those involved in Obi-Wan Kenobi have indicated it will be worth the wait, with McGregor himself previously admitting he was 'more excited about doing this one than [he] was doing the second and third [films]'.

Speaking to Empire in 2020, he continued: "I'm just excited about working with [director] Deborah Chow, and the storylines are going to be really good, I think.

"I'm just excited to play him again. It's been long enough since I played him before."

It's been more than 15 years since McGregor last appeared on-screen in the role, so to help him return to his inner Kenobi, the actor watched all nine Star Wars films from start to finish, 'just to get back in that world'.

"It was interesting to watch our films because I hadn't seen them since they came out, not at all," he told Entertainment Weekly.

"So it was cool to see and interesting to watch them and enjoy them without all of the noise that was around when they came out."

McGregor will be joined in the series by another familiar face, or rather, mask, with Hayden Christensen back in the role of Darth Vader.

So far the return of the iconic villain has been enveloped in mystery, so fans were hopeful the new trailer would offer a better look at his character and a few more clues about what he'll be getting up to in the series.

For all the details, though, fans will just have to wait for the release.
