American football quarterback Patrick Mahomes played through a high ankle sprain to lead the Kansas City Chiefs to the Super Bowl next weekend.

The injury is said to play a part in deciding the outcome of the Super Bowl on February 12 against Philadelphia, after he was tackled by Corey Peters and Arden Key, who fell on Mahomes lower leg.

Fans all around the world were concerned for their 27-year-old quarterback star before he impressively made a return to the game for the second half.

Despite what looked like intense pain, Mahomes secured a win and overcame the adversity he was faced with.

NFL Network's James Palmer told Mirror Sport: “It’s going to play a part.

“The Eagles had 70 sacks this year - 15 more than any other team in football. Their defensive line is relentless, and what they can do on the edge is what I’m keeping my eye on.”
