Stranger Things is back in full swing, the fourth season of the supernatural horror has already accumulated a staggering 286.79 million hours watched over its first weekend, breaking the record for any TV show in English across all of Netflix. The lengthy episodes of the fourth season have meant that the new instalment has been split in two, therefore we still have to wait for the 1st July to complete Stranger Things.

However, what everyone wants to know is this it for everyone’s favourite 80s set sci fi? Or is there still more yet to come?

Will There Be A Stranger Things Season 5?

Despite season 4 only just coming out, Stranger Things writer and directors the Duffer brothers released a statement saying: “We predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four…season 4 will be the penultimate season; season 5 will be the last.” So we can breathe a sigh of relief knowing this will not be the last time we’re gonna be seeing the beloved characters we’ve got to know over the past six years.

There is no release date for season 5 yet, and we’ll be able to give a better guess when production actually starts. Nonetheless, season 4 was supposed to come out in 2021 (two years after season 3), but was pushed back due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, it could be another similar two year wait. However, what we do know is that the Duffer brothers have already got a story ready and have pitched it to the Netflix executives. It is not impossible that we could see season 5 out in late 2023.

Regarding the plot, once again we can't be sure of anything until volume 2 of season 4 is released. We do know something however, and that is that the story for the final season made the executives cry! In an interview with the wrap Matt Duffer exclaimed “I mean, it was hard. It's the end of the story. I saw executives crying who I've never seen cry before and it was wild.” This can only mean good things, as we can expect to hurtle towards an emotional ending for one of the biggest series on television.
