Stranger Things writers tease Joseph Quinn will return for season five after two intriguing posts

It looks like fan-favourite Eddie could be making a comeback.

Eddie Munson fans may be getting exactly what they had hoped for in season five of Stranger Things.

The 'Stranger Writers' Twitter account - you know the one, the official social account of iconic Netflix show's writers room - have teased their followers with not one but two behind-the-scenes snaps of Joseph Quinn as Eddie Munson.

It has left fans (and, to be honest, us) teeming with questions.

Is Eddie coming back? Will he be resurrected? Will we get flashback scenes? Or is this all a mean trick concocted by the writer's room to whip fans up into an overexcited lather?

All remain unknown, except for maybe the last one, because the twin tweets, captioned 'not feelin’ it' and 'feelin’ it', have sent Stranger Things fans into a tizzy.

One social media user threw up a Taylor Swift reference, harking back to when the 33-year-old songstress straight up lied to Swifties with a few words right before she dropped her twin albums, Folklore and Evermore.

The Stranger Things fan wrote: "This is the ST writers version of 'not a lot going on at the moment'."

Another echoed the frenzied feeling felt by many: "Okay… are you trying to tell us something!? This is driving me crazy."

A third was more jaded in their approach: "Y’all remember how the ST official accounts used [pictures of] Billy to bait Billy stans into watching season four [by] posting lots of stuff about him to make it seem like we would have him back?"

They added: "They’re doing it again. LMAO, don’t fall for it Eddie stans."

So we don't know what to think now.

It could have just been behind the scenes shots from the previous season, or it could be something new.

Either way, there is a thirst for Munson's return.

Currently, 87,365 people signed a Change.org petition to bring back Stranger Things 4's breakout character.

The petition was launched shortly after the fourth season dropped and after fans witnessed Munson's horrible, soul-crushing death at the hands (or teeth) of a whole flock of seething interdimensional bat monsters in the Upside Down.

The petition reads: "The Duffer Brothers have unfairly killed [Munson] off and many other fans and I think he deserves to be brought back and not just as a flashback, please sign this petition to spread awareness."

It's now reached astronomical heights, despite the Duffer Brothers saying Munson won't make a comeback.

So, we're either being cruelly teased or the writer's room is pulling the ol' switcheroo on us.

Only time will tell.
