23,000 Fans Sign Petition To Bring Back ‘Unfairly’ Murdered Stranger Things Character

We're still ugly crying about this one.

Major spoilers ahead for Stranger Things 4 Vol. 2 in this article.

Please don't read on if you've not yet seen the final episode of the series.

Don't say we didn't warn you.

More than 23,000 fans have signed a Change.org petition to bring back Stranger Things 4 breakout character Eddie Munson.

We have to admit that we're still ugly crying about this one.

Joseph Quinn's character had a horrible, soul-crushing death at the hands (or teeth) of a whole flock of seething interdimensional bat monsters in the Upside Down.

Some people have taken their uncontrollable sobs over Munson's heroic death, bottled them up, and said 'nope, not today, Satan'.

The Duffer Brothers are now being petitioned to pull off a screenwriting miracle: to bring Eddie back from the dead.

A Change.org campaign has been launched and more than 23,000 people have already signed it.

"This is a petition I have started to bring back fan favourite Eddie Munson," the petition creator wrote.

"The Duffer Brothers have unfairly killed him off and many other fans and I think he deserves to be brought back and not just as a flashback, please sign this petition to spread awareness."

The person who started the petition is far from being alone in her newfound love for Eddie Munson.

You could even say the comments section of the petition has lit up under the petition like an Upside Down lightning strike.

One signee wrote: "His death didn't seem to have any meaning beyond shock value and it sucks to have such a good character thrown away like that. I want more backstory on Eddie and I need his name to be cleared."

A second added: "His death was probably the worst thing this show has ever done. The fact the Duffers are so adamant to keep him dead is annoying and an awful choice to be honest."

A third simply said: "EDDIE DESERVES TO GRADUATE."

So will anything come of the petition? It's doubtful. The Duffer Brothers have their vision for Stranger Things season five, and it likely has nothing to do with pandering to the whims of fans.

Joseph Quinn has said he'd like to be in the fifth and final season.

Speaking to The Guardian, he said: "I’ll be furious if they don’t bring me back [laughs]. I’d love to, if they’ll have me."

Quinn has his own ideas about how The Duffer Brothers would weave his dead character back into the series.

He told Radio Times: "Me and Joe Keery were discussing ways in which I could kind of [come back]... maybe I’d be like a figment of Gaten’s [Matarazzo, who plays Dustin] imagination or something.

"Like if there could be some kind of room for something like that, something a bit supernatural."
