Thor Fans Are Complaining About Love And Thunder's Runtime

Thor Fans Are Complaining About Love And Thunder's Runtime

The latest Marvel film is less than two hours long

Superheroes, an epic soundtrack and Chris Hemsworth in the nude - Thor: Love and Thunder has it all, but a lot of fans have still managed to find issue with one thing: the movie's length.

With titles such as Avengers: Endgame, James Bond: No Time To Die and Top Gun, film fans have become more accustomed to lengthy films over the last few years.

Though admittedly not the best for those with small bladders, filmmakers seem to be edging towards the three-hour mark for films more and more frequently, allowing them to pack in more content and keep fans captivated for as long as possible.

Director Taika Waititi didn't give in to this temptation, though, and as a result Thor: Love and Thunder has a run time just short of two hours. After the film's release this week, fans are complaining that it's not quite long enough.

Sharing their opinion on the film, one fan wrote: "Thor L&T biggest problem is pacing. Movie was absolutely too short... Tryna introduce Jane and Gorr, while tryna further development Thor was just too much for Taika. Outside of that, it's a 'good' film. Just good."

Another commented: "Thor: Love and Thunder was good but too short," while a third fan wrote: "Thor Love and Thunder was an emotional rollercoaster ride from beginning to end. I laughed, I cried and had a lot of fun watching it.

"I do wish it would've been a bit longer. Although other than that, I had a great time."

At one hour 59 minutes, Thor: Love and Thunder is actually Marvel's shortest film since 2018's Ant-Man and the Wasp, which ran for at one hour 58 minutes.

Though many Marvel fans are evidently disappointed that they didn't get to see more of Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman in action in the film, it's worth noting that Love and Thunder is similar in length to the first three Thor films, which lasted one hour 54 minutes, one hour 52 minutes and two hours 10 minutes, respectively.

In an interview with NME, director Waititi indicated Love and Thunder could have been longer, but that it probably wouldn't have been as good.

He explained: "Directors need to be controlled sometimes and if I was to say, ‘Ah you wanna watch my director’s cut? It’s four and a half hours long!’ It’s not good at four and a half hours.

"There’s a lot of cup-of-tea breaks in there, you don’t even have to pause it.”

It's definitely a positive that fans want more rather than less of the film, but they'll just have to make do with that they've got.
