People can't unsee Timothée Chalamet as Mr Tumnus after red carpet look

Timothée Chalamet rocked up to the premiere of Bones and All Venice Film Festival looking like... Mr Tumnus from Chronicles of Narnia

After Timothée Chalamet rocked up to the Venice Film Festival wearing a backless red halter top and matching trousers, many people were surprised to find they were reminded of... um, a fictional topless faun.

Chalamet arrived on the red carpet in a custom red, shimmery halter top and coordinating trousers – a look that had been created for him by designer and friend Haider Ackermann.

While many felt the look was an absolute serve, others admitted they thought it was ‘giving Mr Tumnus’, referencing the infamous faun played by James McAvoy in the film version of Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Yup, with the barely-there, draped halter top, many couldn’t help but see Mr Tumnus – the faun who has the legs of a goat and the upper body of a human, sporting a naked torso covered only by a thin, red scarf.

After seeing Chalamet at Venice, one person asked on Twitter: “Why is it kind of giving Mr. Tumnus?”

The comparison ended up being a fairly common one, with another saying: “Timothée cosplaying Mr Tumnus I see.”

A third wrote: “It’s giving Mr. Tumnus.”

A fourth said: “Timothée chalamet is giving sl**ty Mr Tumnus at Venice Film Festival rn I can’t lie.”

Another thought he looked like a 'yassified Mr Tumnus', while one other person added: “Somebody said he looks like Mr. Tumnus and I can’t unsee it.”

Chalamet was at the film festival for the premiere of his new film, Bones and All, which follows two cannibalistic lovers as they go on a cross-country trip together.

The film, which received an 8.5-minute standing ovation at Venice, sees Chalamet star alongside Taylor Russell, along with a supporting cast of Mark Rylance, Michael Stuhlbarg, André Holland, Chloë Sevigny, Jessica Harper and David Gordon Green.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Chalamet spoke about how the film ties in to themes of being young and 'intensely judged'.

He explained: “It was a relief to play characters who are wrestling with an internal dilemma absent the ability to go on Reddit or Twitter or Instagram or TikTok and figure out where they fit in. Without casting judgment on that, because if you can find your tribe there, then all the power. But I think it’s tough to be alive now. I think societal collapse is in the air, it smells like it, and without being pretentious, I hope that’s why these movies matter because that’s the role of the artist is to shine a light on what’s going on.”

Bones and All is released in the US on 23 November.
