Tom Cruise thanks fans for supporting Top Gun: Maverick while free falling from aircraft

Hurtling though the sky above the South African coastline is probably the most 'Tom Cruise' way to deliver a message, ever.

What's Tom Cruise up to right now? Oh, having a totally normal time, probably.

But 'normal' is a relative term, because 'normal' in Tom Cruise's world means hurling yourself out of a plane in order to send a heartfelt message to fans of Top Gun: Maverick.

It's a far cry from this writer's 'normal', which is more likely to involve walking a small yellow dog or crying into a glass of white wine.

But, hey, everybody is different.

Anyway, Cruise took a short break from filming the next Mission Impossible flick to thank fans for their continued support in making the long awaited sequel the massive success that it was.

A goggle-clad Cruise kicked off the video perched miles above a beach.

"Hey everyone, here we are over stunning South Africa and we're filming Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning parts one and two," Cruise said.

"I didn't want the year to end without thanking you all for coming out to the theatre and thank you for supporting Top Gun: Maverick."

The Top Gun star then introduced MI7 director Christopher McQuarrie, who can be seen telling the Hollywood star to hurry it along.

"Hey, listen, we really gotta roll. We gotta get this shot," he tells Cruise, who nods and can be seen taking the hint.

Cruise then can be heard asking the director if he cares to join him.

He replied: "Not on your life."

To be fair, we'd be in the same boat as McQuarrie.

Cruise quips: "Well, [I'll] see you down there".

He then oh-so casually falls backwards into the sky, completing the video while plummeting towards the ground.

"Where was I? Oh yeah. Thank you for supporting Top Gun: Maverick. As always, thank you for allowing us to entertain you. It truly is the honour of a lifetime," the actor said, all while being cool as hell.

Cruise then mentions he's 'losing altitude' and adds: "You have a safe and happy holiday. We'll see you at the movies!"

He then separates from the camera, careering off into the blue sky like the wild thrill seeker he is, vanishing into wide, open air below.

So, a totally normal work day for ol' Tommy C.

Fans on social media were shocked by Cruise's cavalier attitude to chucking himself out of a plane.

One Twitter user said: "Doesn't even phase him. Meanwhile, I'm still having a panic attack from watching this on my phone."

A second added: "Like… it’s the moment he keeps going AFTER jumping from the plane that’s driving me wild right now."

A third commented: "I'm convinced Tom Cruise is not human."

Well, suddenly crying into a glass of wine doesn't seem so bad.

At least it's not life threatening.

Top Gun: Maverick will be available to stream on Paramount+ from December 22 globally, with the exception of South Korea and France.

The film will drop on Paramount+ for those countries in 2023.
