HBO has started to move forward with Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon.
According to sources that have spoken to Entertainment Weekly, the network has begun the casting process for the upcoming show.
The eagerly-anticipated project will be set 300 years before the events in Game of Thrones took place.
#HouseOfTheDragon, a #GameofThrones prequel is coming to @HBO.
The series is co-created by @GRRMSpeaking and Ryan Condal. Miguel Sapochnik will partner with Condal as showrunner and will direct the pilot and additional episodes. Condal will be writing the series. pic.twitter.com/9ttMzElgXm

As you can see from the tweet above, Mr Sapochnik will be directing. He was the one who brought 'Battle of the B******s', 'Hardhome' and 'The Long Night' - some of GoT's biggest and best episodes across the eight seasons.
Casey Bloys, president, HBO programming said in a statement: "The Game of Thrones universe is so rich with stories.
"We look forward to exploring the origins of House Targaryen and the earlier days of Westeros along with Miguel, Ryan and George."

The author behind the original series, George R. R. Martin, has already released a book detailing the history of the Targaryens called Fire and Blood, meaning HBO has plenty of source material to work with.
Fire and Blood begins with Aegon the Conqueror, who also was the king on the Iron Throne that everyone in Westeros was so bloody keen to have.
The book goes into detail on how the dragon family held off repeated attempts to take the throne as well as from within their own ranks.
A civil war, known as the Dance of the Dragons, nearly destroyed their family and could have prevented Dany from ever being born.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the prequel series has been given 10 episodes for its first season.
It's fair to say fans are losing it over the casting news - with many putting themselves forward for a part in the series.

One person posted: "Just waiting for the casting call for #HouseOfTheDragon @HBO because I BELONG in house Targaryen."
And another wrote: "@hbo who do I need to talk to in casting!! Idgaf [I don't give a f**k] if I get fed to a dragon. I want in! #houseofthedragon!"
Well, it doesn't seem like they'll be short of options.
