We're pretty used to seeing Ryan Reynolds demonstrate his superhero skills on the big screen, but the actor was forced into action IRL after a barrier collapsed at a film event, almost crushing him.

The 43-year-old was promoting his new film, Free Guy, at the CCXP in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Saturday, when he had to dive to safety after a stand fell over. You can watch the drama unfold in the video above.

Reynolds stepped down off the stage to go and speak to his army of fans jostling behind a barrier. However, as he jumped down and walked over to speak to the crowd, the barrier collapsed causing fans to fall forward with it.

The Deadpool star was a split second from being brown bread, but thinking quickly, he managed to leap backwards up onto the stage, avoiding injury.

It's really quite impressive.

After narrowly avoiding a couple of broken legs, Reynolds and security staff rush down to the floor to pull the barrier back up and check whether any of the fans have been hurt.

He then hopped back onto the stage before the video ends.

According to reports, it does not appear that anyone was seriously injured.

Reynolds' new movie Free Guy is an action comedy which centres on a bank worker who discovers he is actually a background character in a video game called Free City which is set to go offline.

The first trailer for the movie was released over the weekend and also star Killing Eve lead Jodie Comer, who plays both Millie, one of the developers of the video game, and Molotov Girl, Millie's avatar.

They feature alongside Channing Tatum, Utkarsh Ambudkar and Joe Keery. It is set to be released on 1 July 2020 in the UK.

Away from his glittering movie career, Reynolds and wife Blake Lively recently welcomed their third child into the world.

Earlier this year, they shared the first snap of them together. Taking to Twitter the Deadpool actor wrote: "I love B.C. [British Columbia]. I want my daughters to experience the same natural playground I grew up in."

He then went on to use the platform and picture to talk about climate control, adding: "On Oct. 21, the candidate you vote for will SHAPE CLIMATE POLICY. I'm proud of the climate progress made the last 4 years. Click http://Elections.ca for voting info. #Capilano". Nicely done.
